The use of Simple mod manager is highly recommended due to the nature of this mod, as it allows for easy enabling/disabling (get it here). This mod can be installed manually if you must, but it's structured to work with the manager and latest version of atmosphere.

Before we start, this mod will enable the R18 content in-game and the gallery. No such files will be provided in this tutorial, only a custom config, links will only be provided to the legit steam patch (sfw page so think it's allowed). This game has an adult warning in the base game already so no kids allowed here, shoo.

There are two version of the games' patch, a mosaic version of the scenes for the steam edition of the game, or a fully uncensored version for the MangaGamer edition. The steam patch can be downloaded for free, but the MangaGamer edition must be purchased as it comes pre-patched, unlike the steam edition. The switch install process is the same for both games regardless of which patch you download.

How to install the patch

Getting ReadyExtracting files from NSPAdding Patch FilesActivate & Verify

    1. Download the attached zip, extract to desktop for now
    2. Download Steam Patch (mosaic scenes) (Free)
      or
Buy MangaGamer version and install (Full scenes) (Paid)
    3. Extract 'root.pfs.040' to desktop from the steam patch or locate it in the pc install directory of the game

    1. Use whatever method you want to extract the romfs nca contents from your backup
    2. Download GARbro (https://github.com/morkt/GARbro)
    3. Use GARbro to open 'root.pfs' in your extracted romfs folder
    4. Extract the following 4 files, keeping their folder structure, to 'mods\TroubleDays\Restore Mod\contents\01005EA012430000\romfs\system\'
      • adv\func.lua
      • extend\title_switch.iet
      • ui\title.lua
      • ui\save.lua
    5. Extract 'system.ini' to 'mods\TroubleDays\Restore Mod\contents\01005EA012430000\romfs\'
    6. STEAM ONLY: Also extract 'ui\steam.lua' and 'ui\system.lua', following the same file structure.

    1. Place patch 'root.pfs.040' in 'mods\TroubleDays\Restore Mod\contents\01005EA012430000\romfs\'
    2. Your romfs folder should look like this
      trouble.png
    3. Copy 'mods' folder to root of SD card to use with Simple Mod Manager

    1. Use mod manager or the tesla overlay to activate and verify the mod
    2. If you see 'Uncensored Edition' on the Artemis screen, the mod has installed successfully.
    3. R18 content is now available in story and extra/gallery mode.

And that's it, this should work with all languages but I've only tested with English.

If it doesn't work try going over everything again, or you might have an issue with one of the programs needed. If that's the case look to the forums for said programs for help, as I haven't made any of the apps or homebrew that I've used in this tutorial so can't help with any related issue.
With that being said, make sure you use the nsp files for this tutorial, if you wanna be lazy and just use the pc files instead of extracting the nca then it won't work. It either wont boot, crash, or give you a black screen after the R18 warning.

Sorry if these seemed like thread spam, I just got excited and wanted to share my discoveries.

Have fun :)

(Sorry for the error, I forgot to change the folder names for each game, fixed now, should show up correctly in the mod manager)

Haha it's not you're fault, I did take them down for a bit while I uploaded the new version, sorry.

Hey I appreciate it. That being said, I'm having trouble with step 1 of part 2.

Specifically
Use whatever method you want to extract the romfs nca contents from your backup

I've tried extracting the romfs nca from the nsp installed and the dumping tool, NXdumper won't go through.

This error occurs:
loadExternalKeys: unable to parse necessary keys from sdmc:/switch/prod.keys"! (keys file empty)?

Any solution? And thanks for this. Got ninindays working and can not thank you enough ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Ignore all of that.

I got it dumped and I followed the instructions, but now the game has infinite loading on launch.

It goes from switch splash screen, to trouble days loadiing screen (English) and suddenly shifts to trouble days loading (Japanese) with english text sayins now saving....

And it stays there forever. Help?

Glad to hear you got the other game working fine. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'm not sure how you're having that problem but I booted up the game to test it and noticed that I can't save, quicksave and quickload works so progress can be continued but regular saving just freezes the game. I have no idea how this happened, or the problem you're having, as during my initial testing I never had either of these problems.

I'm going to go through and retest and remod all of the games to make sure I didn't miss something, but this is quite puzzling, thanks for letting me know and sorry for the inconvenience.

2nd Ed: Right think it's fixed, there's no difference to the file but I updated the instructions to include the 'save.lua' file that I missed, please look to step 4 in tab 2 to see where this file goes.

If you still get a black screen then go through and make sure you got all the files from the trouble days rom and didn't accidentally mix them up with any of the other games (in case you extracted multiple games at a time) as the files are all different despite having the same names.

Only other thing I can think of is to make sure you have the 'system.ini' file extracted, and placed in the root of your 'romfs' folder, it doesn't go inside the 'system' folder where the other files are. If you did that, it's my fault as the folder preview I uploaded didn't show that file in the root folder, which I've updated now but may have caused confusion so my apologies for that.

Hi, wanted to say thank you for the content restore mods.:) I was wondering if theres any way that you could use the same methods to make a content restore mod for NekoMiko? i believe the file structure for it is similar to these games as well since it also uses the artemis engine?

I wasn't too interested in NekoMiko cos I've played lots of shrine maiden laden games before, but gave it a shot anyway.

I got the scenes to implement in the game but it's not playable, or even properly viewable. Unfortunately, not only are there way more files that need to be pulled and then also modified by you guys (as I wouldn't be allowed to share them) but all of the image files are completely different resolutions. So the touch screen stopped responding properly because images were stretched or shrunk on the screen from like 25% to 300% of their normal size and as a result most the menu function was broken too. And obviously you couldn't properly see anything as a result.

It really sucks because I wanted to get all of them done while I was so intrigued by these games, but yeah sadly that one is a no go. You would have to compare the resolutions for every single image and then upscale or downscale then, which I tried myself just out of stubbornness but any edited file needs to be loose as whenever I repacked the archive it wouldn't load. Sadly when I have all those image files unpacked, even with the correct resolutions and configs etc, the game either refuses to load, or doesn't load the cut scenes. I think the game needs to see the r18 archive for it to activate the content and/or maybe there's a file limit on layeredfs but either way it doesn't work.

The only think I could do was replace the pre-existing scenes that had fog or light ray censoring (like any bathing scenes), with the ones that didn't. So at most all I could manage was some free the nipple action going on, which I didn't feel was worth making a thread about since it's not a full restore and there's only like 2 of those scenes in that game iirc.

So I'm sorry about that, but with all the games I've done so far, the developer uses a config file to auto detect the device and determine resolution (so it's set to 1080p on pc and ps4, 720p on switch, psvita) so this isn't a problem here, but NekoMiko doesn't seem to implement these configs as the files themselves are different resolutions (I think it's the devs first game so maybe that's why). Should mention I don't think these games are on any Sony platforms, so it's a bit sad to see in the files that they clearly had planned on it at some point but I'd hazard a guess that they couldn't pass the Sony censor.

Okay so I reinstalled this like 50 times and dumped it and re-installed it multiple times and even re-extracted all files multiple times.

Nothings fixing it, except one thing. When I remove the root.pfs.040 (the goods) the following happens.

The game loads normally, I see the uncensored message on the artemis screen.

I haven't tried loading anything because no nudes no point imo.

So this leads me to believe it's something to do with the current file being distributed with the steam uncensor dlc thing linked above. I do not have access to mangagamers files.

I'm gonna look too see other sources of the uncensor patch, and if I find anything that works for me I'll update. That being said, can you try reinstalling with your steps and re-download the patch and try to install like I did and see if it's a user error on my end.

Of course you don't have too, but I would like it for troubleshooting purposes.

I just redid the whole process myself and got a black screen, with both steam and mangagamer files, going back to the working mod files I had and suddenly they black screen now too. I'm not entirely sure what is happening but it might be something up with the switch itself, or maybe layeredfs somehow is playing up. Because if I have working mod files, removing them and reapplying them should again result in a working mod, but for some reason I'm getting black screened too now. So I'm guessing it's not a problem with the files themselves, I'll try testing a bunch of other things in the morning and I'll get back to you with any progress. Sorry for all the bother, it's been working literally every other time I was doing stuff with it so I'm quite baffled tbh.

Ed: Ignore all that, I was an idiot and had corrupted files from my extraction, mangagamer version works as intended. I'm looking through each file to compare any differences between the steam and mangagamer patch, so far I'm only seeing the images that are different, the configs I've looked over for now are all the same so I can say for certain that if you can get the mangagamer patch then it'll work. I'm still working on steam for this one, hope it works cos pretty sure the other games are fine with both versions.

Ed: Ok try also extracting the files 'steam.lua' and 'system.lua' from the 'adv' folder of your extracted root.pfs, and place them in the 'adv' folder in the mod where the 'func.lua' file is located. That should fix it, please let me know if it does so I can update the guide, thanks for your patience and I hope this actually fixes it for you this time.

Heya Kukkoro Days does not work. Tried the above as well as importing the extra files as per Trouble Days. Same issue, stuck on English/Japanese “saving” loop at game launch.

Using steam patch or mangagamer? I didn't need the extra files for Kukkuro Days even for the steam patch, whereas they are needed for trouble Days. Not entirely sure how to replicate the problem but just to make sure when you say you imported the extra files you meant from the Kukkuro dump and not the files from Trouble Days.

yes of course I imported the extra files from the right nca but the freeze issue is just like the one for trouble days before the fix. i was using the steam r18. tks for the good work btw!

Yeah that's fine I just thought to double check that that's what you meant. Very peculiar that you're having issues even with the extra files but then again I have no idea if they'd be needed for Kukkuro anyway. I don't have my stuff atm but I'll take another look once I do, could be I missed a step or had extra files in my game folder I forgot about (while testing I would add/remove files directly from the contents folder and sometimes forget to add/remove them later from the mod folder itself, at least that's how I've messed up before).

One thing I will say though, and I know it's not exactly a fix, but get the mangagamer version of the game, you need to enter the adult section of the site, otherwise searching will show no results. It's so much better to have the uncensored scenes in the game rather than the censored version that the steam patch uses. Obviously it costs money compared to the free patch, assuming you couldn't borrow it from a friend, not that I condone borrowing from friends cos that's probably a naughty thing to do even with irl friends.

I also just discovered you can get the games on Fakku, so if you don't mind supporting over there then I imagine the mangagamer and fakku versions are probably the same as they both appear to be uncensored.

Sorry to hear that, I'll take a look when I'm able to, but I was sure I solved it for good this time. I know it's tedious but in the meantime you could try going through the whole process again, maybe delete the files and re-download your mangagamer version, or re-dump the nsp in case there was an issue with the files maybe. (the switch version of the game hasn't been patched has it?)

In testing I had a lot of issues stem from mixing up which files I extracted from the switch and which ones I extracted from the pc patch even though I had separate folders, so every time I tested it I would totally delete everything and start fresh, just to rule it out.

@Rasa39, can you explain some moments - I do not inderstand - why extracting files from root.pfs is neccessary? THere is no changes applied for this files, so why to extract them?

@Rasa39, can you explain some moments - I do not understand - why extracting files from root.pfs is necessary? There is no changes applied for this files, so why to extract them?

Yeah sure, so it's because those same files exist in the r18 patch that you download. If you try to run the game with just the r18 patch, then it will crash on boot or black screen. This is because the game uses the files in the r18 patch over any that exist in the base game, this is fine for pc but some files in that patch are blank/dummy files so aren't compatible with the switch and result in the game not working.

You need to extract those files from the dumped switch game because the game will read any unpacked files first. So you unpack the switch files listed in the instructions, the game reads them first and ignores any files of the same name that are inside the pc patch, but it will still read the rest of the files in there (like the extra scripts and images for r18 content).

That's why you need to extract those files even though they aren't changed in any way. Like as an example there are files with 'switch' and 'windows' in the name in both pc and switch versions, but on the switch version the 'windows' named files are blanked out and don't have any real data in them, but on the pc version the 'switch' named files are blanked out instead.

Problem is when you load that patch, which has the blanked switch files, the switch will read those first and because there is no data in them it just crashes. But that isn't a problem on the pc as it only reads 'windows' files and not the switch ones, so you need to extract the switch files from the base game in order for the game to read those instead of the blank files in the r18 patch.

That is also why I had to make a custom config file that was compatible with the switch version but also triggers the r18 content from the patch and enables it in the cg menu, and I added controller support for those extra scenes too.

Does that help explain it better? I might have just made it sound confusing because I'm not the best at explaining things, so sorry if that's the case, but I hope I've made sense.
