Traveller's Tales to Sony: Make downloadable games cheaper or the PSP Go Dies

Traveller's Tales founder Jon Burton has a prediction: Sony will eventually make downloadable PSP games much cheaper than their retail UMD versions. If that doesn't come to pass, Burton believes it could lead to the death of the PSP Go.

Speaking at the Developer Jury Service, Burton questioned Sony's current pricing strategy for downloadable games, which are usually placed at the same price point as their fresh-off-the-shelf UMD counterparts. The thing is, of course, discounts and retailer price cuts for the UMD versions can make them cheaper.

"I own a PSPgo but don't want to buy LittleBigPlanet, for instance, as I can get it 20 per cent cheaper on UMD from Amazon and could resell it once I'm finished with it" said Burton. "But if I download it, I get no discount, and no chance to resell - how annoying is that?"

"I'm betting on Sony making PSPgo games much cheaper than the UMD versions, or the PSPgo will die," Burton added. With the Go showing dismal sales numbers, making the games cheaper could lead to a turnaround. Well, that and giving the handheld itself a nice price cut.

I thought this was funny and also agree with it.
Sony might not lower prices though because rumor has it a UMD addon is being made for the PSP Go.

i hope they do price cut the games, there is no way UMD cost 0p to make.

PSP Go is a really cool little portable. It doesn't deserve all the bad press.

The games are truly overpriced. Have you seen the cost of PSP Mini apps? Ridiculous.

Besides, PSN games should be cheaper then their UMD counterparts because cost is saved from packaging and manuals. What's with this bullshit of them costing the same, sometimes even more?
