Hey guys. I was wondering, do You think it would be possible to move an old .sav of Pokemon Red to 3DS Virtual Console? I still have my saved game file from ~15 years ago, when I was a little kid, with my first Pokemon. I always wanted to move them to newer games, and I heard that it would be possible with Pokemon Sun/Moon :).

No way to know yet, but I'll definitely be looking into it.

If the saves are encrypted, it's only a matter of time until someone breaks said encryption.

it's not possible yet to use Pokémon Bank with RGBY, and the Pokémon from RGBY won't be able to trade to XYORAS

I had just read about the feature of been able to transfer Pokemon from the original games and instantly thought the same thing.

I got Pokemon Red in January 2000, a few months after it was released here in the UK and still have my original save. I managed to dump my save from the original cartridge back in 2009. It would be awesome to finally trade the Pokemon I caught 16 years ago to a modern version of the game.

Save replacement works, I've given myself a few illegal movesets with Pikasav!

What did you use to extract the save and inject the edited one back?

Oh. Interesting. I tried using a CIA save data manager (can't remember what it's called) and also svdt. Neither worked. I forgot to try SaveDataFiler. Was the save encrypted?

Maybe JK's Manager will work the same way? Also, could you make a post about it?

It was JK's that I tried. It just made an empty folder. Maybe I didn't do it right.
Edit: I didn't do it right. You can use JK's save manager.

Well, I think I'll try. But I don't want to lose my save at this point... I'll try with another language red. It should work with the same save

I figured it out. I didn't press the right button to confirm I wanted to dump the save in JK's manager. It works with mine. If you need to use SaveDataFiler, the ID for English Yellow is 1712.

JK 2016-2-21 appears to work, not sure if secure value is implemented!

Anyone got it working? I've tried dumping it and got 2 files: sav.dat and SecureValue, I tried to inject an old save of mine (looks like it uses the file same estruture) renaming it from xxx.sav to sav.dat and it doesn't worked, I got a corrupted save error from VC. I'm assuming the problem is the SecureValue file, any way to patch it?

If you dumped a save at a certain time, only replaced sav.bin, and didn't open the game until you installed the edited one, the secure value is not your problem; but the most reliable way you can bypass the secure value is by using SaveDataFiler, finding the game in the first tab (as if you were to extract a save), and pressing R+X

If the save comes from an emulator, try to find an "export battery" option in the original emulator!
