Your internet service provider (ISP) controls your IP address. The IP address could be a static number or a dynamic number depending on what your ISP determines whats best for its clients. If you cancelled your internet service and switched to a different ISP or took your wii to a buddies house and connected to the internet you'll see that the IP on your Wii changes.hatredg0d said:that number can be changed very easy.
So how would you change the Wii serial number that's hard coded into the Wii? I haven't seen any hack to change this value.
QUOTE(hatredg0d @ Dec 4 2009, 01:23 AM) Hmm, my wii's ip hasn't changed. but my computers change every day. my computers ip's always start with 71. but the wii's always 192. it may change through lan, but dont it stay the same through internal wireless?
Since your Wii starts with a 192 number, that tells me its behind a router. Your router has a DNS on it that assigns your wii an IP address. The router controls how long this IP address is assigned to your wii based on your Mac Address. If the lease on this IP Address expires, it could give you a new IP address based on if another device takes that IP lease when your Wii is not connected. If your Wii has 24/7 connect on or if you connect to the internet often, then your Wii IP would stay the same since the lease would refresh. I don't see why your PC is not behind the router as well. I would recommend setting up your computer behind your router if you have any control over your home network.
Either way lets try to stay on topic, tracking the IP address from the thief is what is important here, not the IP address of the Wii.
