What I need to do next is find out if there is a very decent GBC emulator for DSi and load it up on my Supercard DSTWO if that is the hardware necessary to facilitate such emulation. Henceforth I should copy the Zelda games for GBC onto it and play them

This thread got me back into GBA already, might as well go a step further

I have GBA running great on 3DS and DSi with that supercard

It is fun stuff. I still own the original launch version GBC system too and flash carts. That system, despite lack of backlighting, works beautifully. And so does (off topic) neogeo pocket color.

Basically we need a portable Zelda game that didn't suck like Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. They were honestly the worst Zelda games since Zelda II.
...
For the record, Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks were more isometric views than top-down.
Personally I found nothing wrong with it. What put you off, the controls?

Everything made it just feel really bad. The dungeons weren't fun and the controls sucked. Not to mention "new" elements they brought (like the boat travel and the train travel) were nothing but big bores and giant nuisances. Considering how excellent Zelda handhled games were, these ones just fell completely flat.

The games are just absolutely terrible compared to Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, and Minish Cap.

I have to agree with you, the DS zeldas were just "meh". However, I liked Zelda II, and would like to see a new one á la New Super Mario Bros. or something

And also, I wouldn't call PH and ST "isometric".. more top-down mixed with a little 3D

I agree with you, actually. Zelda II is the most underrated Zelda game of all time, I think a 2 1/2D remake would be nice.

Also, with a better translation.

Plus I agree about the DS Zelda games, I don't like them that much, I don't really like most of the liberties they took.

While I wouldn't say they were bad, they weren't exactly "Zelda-ish". The inclusion of those many elements made them less of a zelda title, and more of something different.

The use of something to travel across a massive overworld is first seen in OoT with Epona. Then The King of Red Lions in Windwaker which greatly expanded the concept. Then we see it in a smaller scale with Hourglass and then a new twist on it with the train.

I thought it was cool that the two DS games were off shoots of Windwaker. I also enjoyed the train a hell of a lot more than the boat for some reason.

As for top down Zelda's, which the DS games technically are, I think we will see a new Four Swords on Cafe.

I was thinking the same thing when he mention the boats and trains. I still think it was fun and made well.

That's what Nintendo do on every console..bash out the same stuff again to see if it's just as popular, and while doing that, they work on the awesome new stuff..like (on the Wii) Mario Galaxy, Donkey Kong Returns etc, worth the wait

It's kinda funny that PSP was being mocked by DS fanboys for having so many ports. And now 90% 3DS games, including the most anticipated ones (Zelda, RE, MGS...), are all ports or remakes.
And it was false though. Also in the first months there was plenty of all new games(Mercury,Exit,Lumines,PF, Every Extend Extra, Gripshift ecc) and new iterations of old series...but the ports were just few.

No, Wind Waker travel was fucking horrid, only an idiot would have liked it. Pretty much every die hard Zelda fan will tell you it was a terrible travel system and you sure as hell didn't have to spend 20 minutes travelling on a horse that's for sure.

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks were awful games in both concept and controls, the travel was only a small fraction of what was wrong with that game. Having to keep travelling back to the same dungeon just with more parts in order to progress in Spirit Tracks was annoying, not to mention how painful having touch screen controls was. Thank god we have the control slider so that the first new Zelda game for the 3DS won't force us to use the touch screen.

As much as I agree with you, someone who doesn't share the same opinion with you isn't necessarily an idiot.

I never said I liked it. In fact I said I liked the train better than the boat..... I was merely saying the use of transportation is a concept we see start in OoT and continue on in more titles. Im not sure what you are saying 'no' to aswell.

I definitely don't agree with you. As much annoying as it was to sail in WW and to ride the train in ST, the new traveling system in these games were an awesome innovation.
Both games have portals/shortcuts implemented in some way or another, just like OoT with the temple songs.

I also liked the cell shading rendering, it made Zelda so much more beautiful, and strengthened the fantasy side of a great adventure game.

You shouldn't say that. Wind Waker is a lot of people's favorite game, and the traveling, open-world aspect was my favorite feature. Don't call people idiots for liking a game you didn't.

They could just implement fast travel options earlier in the game or just easily. It's stupid to have to run all the way across a big set of plains or ocean that you've crossed plenty of times before just to get to another place. Eventually you get some type of fast travel (like the Ocarina in OoT/MM or Midna's abilities in Twilight Princess) but even then it's not like Fallout where you can open a map, click place you've been before, and warp there instantly. Traveling across the same area to create some "atmosphere" is really, really stupid. I already got enough atmosphere the first time I did it, there's no need to do it again and again.

Not saying you are, but that seem a bit impatient or a sense of want to rush the game.
