to update or not to update

I have had my ipod touch for 4 months now and about 1 week after owning it it told me that i should update it to the latest software but we only had about 500MB left so i waited until next month and downloaded the update afterwards my ipod went in to restore mode and it started to update but halfway through an error came up and it was stuck in restore mode so i restored it but another error came up. i tried everything i could i searched you tube for hours but couldnt find anything so i sent my ipod to apple and they sent me a new one.

and now there is another update (4.0) and i am not quite sure if i should update it or not

and i have no idea if i should update it or not

please help
