Just got back to the civilised world today and saw this news. Bloody awesome work! Wii homebrew is slowly but surely on the way. This is excellent. Great work to all involved.

great work! is there any information about the person who made that? I'd like to talk with him about the wii sdk. I think he used a standard ppc codewarrior; because codewarrior is needed and nobody has released it.

It will be very nice to see how this develops. WiiBoss, Tri-Wing, JDM Programmer and Flex Cable=Best $10 I ever spent.

i just hope that i fnally can use my classic controller for nes and snes-emulators, cuz virtual console titles are expensive and the cube controller sucks for 2d-games

There was meant to be 10min talk two days after this occurred, but they didn't show up for some reason :S There was an interview with the guy, and he released a couple of details.

We don't really need proof of concept. The fact that he showed it at a hacking conference is good enough. He wouldn't show it if he couldn't actually do it.

In the interview, he said it only worked 30mins before hand, so they are probably trying to make sure its possible to reproduce, and trying to get other information using the same hack.

Actually, every Homebrew attempt starts with a proof of concept that people can run on their own machines.

I would be happy to see a proof of concept released.

There was an interview over at tehskeen (mentioned already but here is a link):

There is supposedly a chip in the works but the only news is the same thing rehashed:

The feature list to save a visit, some of it seems quite extensive for such a short period of time having elapsed. Of course the first Wii chips were treated with similar scepticism.

Run Stuff and new apps in WII MODE
DVD playback with no additional software
Option to remove dupe wii channels
Application included to totally change the channels menu layout, colour etc (real themes)
App to link wii via usb and gamecube memcard slot to send homebrew code direct to the wii (additional hardware needed)
No audio fix needed
Option to bypass required firmware updates and run CERTAIN games in detection mode (ignores features in games that need firmware update and still excute, may lead to odd graphic corruption or wrong music being played ingame)
Streamer wii (concept app which will require additional hardware, allows video and much more to be streamed wirelessly back and forth to the wii, includes function to read game in wii and transfer wirelessly to a ready to burn iso file on your pc)

Are there any 'proper' hacker forums, like xboxhacker.net, that people like bushing might hang out in? I was wondering if this stuff was getting discussed by real techies somewhere.

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)

I still like how a freaking mp3 file hacks webos all that security defeated by text yet again

I want a 120hz 4k tv but crazy how more expensive the 120hz over the 60hz are. Or even more crazy is the price of 8k's.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
No real point since movies are 30fps
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Not a big movie buff, more of a gamer tbh. And Series X is 120hz 8k ready, but yea only 120hz 4k games out right now, but thinking of in the future.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Mostly why you never see TV manufacturers going post 60hz
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I only watch tv when i goto bed, it puts me to sleep, and I have a nas drive filled w my fav shows so i can watch them in order, commercial free. I usually watch Married w Children, or South Park
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
That's where stremio comes to play never got a letter about it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just use a VPN, even give him my login and password so can use it also, and he refuses, he's funny.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I had to find and get him an old style flip phone even without text, cause thats what he wanted. No text, no internet, only phone calls. Old, old school.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@BigOnYa, Lol I bought a new USB card reader thing on AliExpress last month for I think like 87 cents. Free shipping from China... It arrived it works and honestly I don't understand how it was so cheap.
