I know that the USA are very highly ignorant of anything older or not concerning their country

To preface, I'm 18.
While I wouldn't say you're wrong with the majority of Americans, but I know plenty of exceptions including myself. I grew up playing classic games like Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Pitfall, Burgertime, Dragon's Lair. My first OS I mainly used was XP and I used it for many many years. I also have a computer with Windows 95 on it that I use for Gameshark hacking on my Nintendo 64. I also have an Atari 2600, 7200, NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, etc. I'm learning Japanese as well, and I am very interested in other cultures besides the US. I'm going to be studying abroad in Japan as well, and I hope to eventually live overseas for a while.

Anywho, your not wrong that a lot of people are that way, but not everyone is.

I don't see how not recognizing something from before their time is ignorant. They simply weren't exposed to outdated media, that's perfectly normal. And to clarify: I'm 15, and recognize it perfectly fine, but that's mostly because of my unhealthy obsession with the internet and everything gaming.

I gave my kid sister a bunch of old games from the NES-PS1 era and she loves them. This was years ago. and she's 12 now. She still plays them. She also loves the arcade version of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man.

I agree, not everyone knows crap back in the late 70's most of you wouldn't know what was there back in the day. In 10 years will probably forget about the first Macintosh and the best windoze OS MS-DOS (Yeah that's right all of the windows suck nuts compared to MS-DOS) People always forget. It's human nature. Humanity forgets non-important things. Space Invaders is an amazing game and a pop culture beast but is forgetful.

Sorry, but I don't see the drama either. Surely it's not that hard to guess that those who are not gamers do not know about these things? It's not exactly a new game, so if it wasn't for references in gaming circles most of us wouldn't know either.

It's more worrying that plenty of gamers and even game developers do not have a 'decent'* history of games. To a degree, it's certainly understandable (you need a lot more time to work yourself through a game than through most other media, so with an evergrowing backlog of games, it's becoming more and more impossible to having played anything that is considered a classic for some reason), but it paints a picture to the non-gaming world.



*I'm putting it between brackets because it's very subjective as to what trivia would be called essential to actually be called a gaming connaisseur
