@WiiPower... glad to hear that you are on to something with maybe not this project in mind.. but hopefully it inspired you to brew some new ideas in that intelligent mind of yours.. Good to hear the morale is high with some of our allstar players!

Hey peeps
Been reading with interest but the threads moving quicker than i can read it due to limited time online atm!! Im at around page 40ish!!
If someone could pm me a link to cioscorp id be grateful. Oh and where to find CIOS30.
Couple of questions too.
At the moment im only interested in changing the IOS's for GHWT and RB2, ill change others as and when needed, so ideally only want to alter the IOS these games uses. i know what RB2 uses, but can anyone tell me which one GHWT uses as i only have a disc?
Also, has anyone tried GHWT thru the Disc Channel using this method, and can they confirm that the Music Store works ok?
Oh yeah, how much SD space do i need to dump my NAND? Using WUFE if i remember correct?

Cheers

if you have the game in the disc, use ImgBurn to dump it back to your PC, and droping it to IOSVersionPatcher, it will show you wich IOS uses, I don't really see why this title shouldn't work, I wouldn't 'cuz you know, I own the legit

the space on your SD if you have your Wii full (of crap abviously) is around 500MB, so it really depends on how much info you have installed on your Wii, get it?

I'm not positive what IOS World Tour uses, but I think it's 35. At least the other GH titles i have are 35. Rock Band is 37 obviously. So you would install those two CIOS if backups of those are your only concern.
Do a search for Game IOS LIST or something like that using gbatemp's search button.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. All of GHWT online functions are working correctly with backups.

guys,

ok you noticed that I am new is this FS part.
I just did my first fs dump, because I am REALLY interested in understanding how it works, this way I might be able to come up with some ideas....

as you know the fs dump takes a while and unfortunately I won't be able to see the end of it tonight...
but before launching it I took a look using fs browser at the structure to get a quick idea,

so my idea is probably TOTALLY crazy, but I would love someone knowledgeable to tell me why.

as I mentioned in my previous post I read the topic today in one go, so I haven't had time yet to put everything clearly in my mind.

but if I am not mystaken (and very briefly/roughly) the way to obtain a patched ios with dip is :
1. dump the fs
2. get the wad you want to tweak (using waadmaker, or at least that's what I have right now, whenever I will have a full dump I might [or not] rethink that)
3. get the 00000001.APP from dip'd wad
4. "inject" it into the wad and recompile it

voila... (I hope I don't sound too stupid)

and now I know I WILL SOUND STUPID but hey I want to learn to a point I will end up being helpful.. hacking my wii just for me does not make sense..
through the fs browser I saw a bunch of 00000001.APP...
wouldn't it be possible to "simply" replace the appropriate ones on the FS ?

it is so simple that I am sure you would have done it a while ago if it was possible, but I would love a clarification.

sorry for that.

Which NAND dumper should I use to dump my nand before doing this?

I haven't had the chance to install this yet. My days have been packed lately, but I finally have time today!

And how large is the nand dump?

FS Dumper did the job for me.
Also since the nand is 512MB total, that's the max size you can expect.
All depends on the wads you have installed.

/me enters off-topic mode

Since this project seems to come to completion (installer is being written and the region patch is progressing), I would like to suggest a name (since I can't contribute to the project in any other way

) for the for it.

I was thinking about WiiNLoader. N standing for native and/or nintendo.
Feel free to disregard or comment my brainfart...

seems the only nand dumper I could get to work correctly was Yet Another Wii Nand Dumper "YaWnD"

I'm not sure if all nands are the same size because I think it will vary with amount of channels/saves on the wii (I think, don't quote me on it). Mine was a little over 500mb
Thanks. I will try YaWnD 0.3. I only have one question. YaWnD has an option for a "normal" or "normal+ECC" dump. Which one should I choose? It says in the meta, "[Normal+ECC] is required if you plan to use NAND backup with external programmer to re-flash your chip."

EDIT: Nvm I saw the post above.

DOH, he said space on SD, not NAND! GOTCHA!

Space on the SD depends on the size of your SD and how much crap you put on it obviously. I have a 2 gig that has tons of wads and homebrew on it and still have almost a gig free.

When it's done, it could be used to install this setup. With the difference that it will be a legal way and the wad pack is surely illegal.

Ok cheers guys for the quick responses.
I havent got that much crap on my Wii so the NAND shouldnt be too big, have alot of crap on the SD Card mind!!
Yeah all online works for me thru Gecko which i have to use atm (long story, basically crap chip which wont update), except for Music Store, so just wondered if loading thru the Disc Channel this way allows the Music Store. ill still give it a go anyway regardless, ta

Looking forward to it. The last week has been one hell of a ride and I can't imagine how my knowledge of Wii's operating system could have progressed any faster.
You Sir, being one of the minds right in the middle of it are responsible for my being able to obtain this knowledge. My hats off to you and all involved!

1.Correct
2.Pack .wad using wadpacker.exe, then again unpacking it using the WWunpacker
3.Change the 00000001.app from IOS249 to this folder of your unpacked .wad
4.Re-pack the .wad again with WWpacker to have the cIOSXX.wad

that's what I did..!!

Ether,

yeah sorry I forgot the unpack.. it was so obvious (inject and repack in step 3)
I will check for wadpacker you mentioned thank you so much for the hints, I am already "familiar" with wwunpacker and wwpacker.... been messing around with existing wads to understand how they work.
smile.gif

anyway thanks for the confirmation.. I haven't read the whole post for nothing
wink.gif

tomorrow I will do a full FS dump and start building my own cios
plus this way I have a backup of my own ios.. as you have been advising all of us.

you did not comment the fact of replacing directly the 00000001.app in the FS..
I guess it is simply a dead end.

except using the title table on wiibrew is there an "easy" way to know which title correspond to which IOS ?

R

ps: Ether, I really appreciate your dedication.
I hope by the time I understand how it works, I can start helping you... if not by coding, at least by being a tester as I will know how to deal with the full system..

Until BootMii comes out for debricking use or another autobootingdol.ISO who can apply an automated non-permanent on-the-fly region and vid patches to the SysMenu by loading a .ini file on the SD we can make an autoboot disc of the reloader... and Swap discs... like the Breaker Pro on PS2 to play imported games. Or having the rebooter channel with rgb cables.

I think this is the best solution because playing with and installing a Permanent Modded System Menu could cause many bricks...

I'll come back tonight...

for 3.4 you'll need to modify all of the IOS plus IOS50, instead of IOS30

i installed all of CIOSCORP on 3.4, installed perfect plus everything works better now, so to make games show in disc channel i just need to mod ios50, or does 3.4 have any extra ios's
