Hello,

I got a problem with a switch console.
I replace the M92T36 and the P13USB chip.

After that console charging good, but i had a black screen when the console was plugged to the dock.

So i check every HDMI filter in the side of P13 USB and all was fine.

I decided to replace the P13USB again with a new one, but now the console only charging when i plug the usb C cable in One specific Side.

I can only charge with an USB C cable connected with a computer, the Nintendo Switch official doesn't charge, he don't send anything, so i think the console doesn't send the info for charging.

I put the console in RCM mode and check with hekate, at the first startup i got over 1100 Ma of charging few times, after i remove the usb cable and put in again the value was normal approcimatively 120 ma

I can put the console in RCM mode with USB connected in the side i want.

I don't know where the problem come from.

If you want, I can help via Discord

It will be a pleasure to share some information.

It s ok, for the Dock function now it s work ;)

There is a small trick i understand, when you have to change the P13USB.
Remove all the solder at the center of the motherboard, like that the chip is much easier to solder.

but the usb C charge only and share information only with one side.
I made a mistacke in my first post, the Original Adaptor charge in one side.
I precise, the usb c NEVER be changed, he is perfectly clean !

When you replace SMD ICs like such you need to use wick to completely remove the solder while using flux to ensure it is clean, then apply a tiny amount of new solder when placing the replacement IC on, if you didn't do this then you may not have correctly replaced it.

Do you have an idea of the component who manage the side of usb charging ?

I had to remove a small part of the dock, and i have to plug the switch on opposite side for dock working.

It s not the first switch i see with this problem.

So power management is handled via the M92T, so the M92T will regulate the output while the BQ handles some USB OTG stuff, allowing power to pass through VBUS to charge the switch and also lets the switch know the charging status, the P13USB IC handles Audio & Video output as far as I'm aware, most likely does more but when it comes to charging and power management it's the M92T that acts as a regulator & distrubutor and the BQ that acts as a gate while doing some USB OTG stuff and info stuff.

If it’s only one sided aka you flip the usb plug around and it works it could be the usbc port

Hate to bump an old topic but I was wondering if anyone else has any thought on this? I have a client's switch that was exhibiting similar behavior (this one isn't charging with the nintendo adapter and will only charge on one side of a regular USBC Cable.) I replaced the charging port and the behavior is still the same.

I've got a switch in for repair that's showing the same symptoms.

The device pulls current (0.42A, transitioning to 1.4A) when cable is plugged in one way. This is good and expected.
Plug the cable in the other way, I see no current draw whatsoever.

The switch docks with a green light. No pass-through to display. Works fine on LCD-only. If I use a HDMI dongle, I can get the picture on the TV, suggesting that the PI3USB is doing its job and the dock issue relates to USB-C orientation.

I've attempted to inject the 4 lines of the USB-A directly onto the board (bypassing the USB-C connector which has been replaced twice), but the problem remains. Interestingly, the USB-C plug needs to be inserted for this to work, so I'm assuming there is some logic between the CC1 and CC2 lines on the USB-C plug?

CC1 and CC2 lines go through to the M92T and they buzz through fine. D+/D- also buzz through. As does VBus and Ground. M92T has been replaced, as has the PI3USB.

So what other aspects of the Switch's design deal with reversal?

So a bit of an update here. I'm using a USB-A to USB-C cable which has the recommended 56k pull-up resistor between CC2 and VBus. This is used to inform the M92T of the insertion orientation of the plug in the receptacle, which in turn informs the PI3USB via I2C to re-route connections on the USB-C connector. Incidentally, it feels like the Pi3USB's sole role is to support the USB-C orientation and nothing to do with routing DP to USB-C or LCD....

So my next check is to manually introduce a 56k resistor at the M92T CC line to try and force it to recognise the cable. This feels like that I've got a faulty M92T and the one bought from eBay which looks like it has been salvaged is faulty too.

When you're repairing, always check both cable orientations!

So I've run out of ideas. Replaced the USB-C three times, swapped out the M92 and PI3 twice and the darn thing still charges on one side of the USB-C. Starting to wonder if I've got a broken track, although the CC lines seem to buzz through fine to the M92.

Anyone had this and can offer some suggested next steps please?

Any update?
No unfortunately. I've been using a USB-C breakout connector to buzz through the lines to check the fit of the usb-c receptacle. Everything checks out ok. Wondering if some of the supporting components around the M92T might have the problem and this is causing the charging to work on one side of the Switch...

Any suggestions welcome!

Hi mate. Have you ever found a solution to your problem? I'm currently in the same situation and changed P1USB, M92T and USB-C port with known good ones and it's still the same behaviour. Charging only one side and no TV output. No water damage. Checked most lines via diode mode and can't find any irregularity vs. my working one. I'm running out of ideas, but I don't wanna ditch this one, since it's a V1 :)

Have you tried removing the CC line ESD protector on the other side of the board near the USB-C? It's not a mandatory fit, so can be safely removed. I've had a few instances where it screws with one of the CC lines causing the problem you describe. You'll find me mentioning it in other threads. Sheriff
