JKSV is generally recommended. Are you using title override (holding R while launching a game, not launching the photo album) to load the homebrew launcher?

I tried both ways, with and without title override. It works it just places an extra JKSV.nro in my SD/Switch folder. So I end up with two of them.

That's strange. I would recommend doing the following:
  1. Delete any JKSV nro files you have
  2. Download the latest version here: https://github.com/J-D-K/JKSV/releases/latest
  3. Run the new version
Is the second copy named something different (since it can't share the same name as the original JKSV.nro), or is your JKSV.nro in a different location?

Hi
Thank you all for all the great support, its amazing.

I was wondering if you can help me with few questions please.

I bought a 400gb memory to upgrade my current and was wondering how to go about it the right way:
  • After reading through the guides and posts, to upgrade I believed I have to clone my current to the new one, backup my saves and copy over and most important copy over the emummc and tried to see if i can extend to the new memory size.
My question is can I just forget about the old memory (remove and pack away) and just put the new 400gb inside and redo the whole jailbreak process again. The caviar here is that the switch (nand and emummc) still on old firmware version (9.2).
  • I also have a nand backup for 9.2 and was wondering if I update to lets say the latest firmware both nand and emummc, would I need to create another nand backup or the old one is enough?
Any recommendations and advises welcomed please.
Thank you lot

You don't need to remove the sd card or put in a new blank one, you can launch the original firmwhare (that isn't hacked) from the hekate menu (going through rcm). But yes the 'jailbreak' is with the sd card you did the process with.

If you followed the usual guide, then the 'jailbreak' should be with what's called the emummc (or emunand), and when you use that, you either shouldn't go online at all, or use something that blocks connection with nintendo (like incognito or something else).
You can go online with the original firmware if you haven't loaded anything custom or homebrew (in other words it has to be like a normal switch for that side). If you connect with nintendo through the internet having anything modded loaded then you risk being banned from nintendo services with that switch.

Hi

Thx for your reply.

I think I formulated my question wrong as my questions are:
1: inside of trying to swap the sd card and doing the convert small sd to bigger, i was wondering if i can just insert the bigger sd card and redo the whole switch jailbreak with installing emummc and stuff? (assuming removing the old sd card render the switch as default?)
2: how can i make sure by doing that the users, saves on the switch are preserved?
3: my online questions was just to update the firmware to latest (still on 9.2 emu and sys) before starting the jailbreak instead of going through daybreak to update the firmware manually. I do not play online although my sysnand is clean.
4: which guides do you suggest plz?

again thank you for your replies

You can do this, but you could also just copy your emuMMC from one SD card to the other.

2: how can i make sure by doing that the users, saves on the switch are preserved?
Your users and saves on your sysMMC are stored on the sysMMC, so they will be preserved no matter what you do to the SD card.

For the users and saves on your emuMMC, you will probably want to transfer your emuMMC from one SD card to the other, since the users and save files are stored on the emuMMC. Alternatively, you can backup decrypted versions of your save files using a tool like JKSV, and you can restore those saves on any Switch under any user using JKSV.

3: my online questions was just to update the firmware to latest (still on 9.2 emu and sys) before starting the jailbreak instead of going through daybreak to update the firmware manually. I do not play online although my sysnand is clean.
If your sysMMC is clean, you should update your sysMMC using the official method from the system settings. If you want to play online using your sysMMC, it must be on the latest version.

If your emuMMC is dirty, you should update the emuMMC using Daybreak. If you update your dirty emuMMC using the official method from the system settings, you will get banned. Your emuMMC should be on a relatively new version for game compatibility. 12.1.0 is supported by Atmosphere, so there's no reason not to update to this version using Daybreak on your emuMMC.

If you are not playing online and don't plan to play online, there's really no reason to even use an emuMMC.

@wiistat just so you know in case, the save files between the sysnand and the emunand will not interact with each other. You can copy the ones from your system when making the emunand so that it has it, but after that they will have separate save files.

Typically the sysnand would be for playing online games (kept clean). If you use your emunand for games other than that.

There are three choices, and it doesn't matter which one you pick as long as it's compatible with your system version when you install it.
  1. Atmosphere's built-in Incognito function. It needs to be enabled manually. Pro: It doesn't modify your sysMMC or emuMMC. Con: It requires Atmosphere to be running to work. In other words, if you accidentally boot a dirty sysMMC or dirty emuMMC as stock, or you boot them without the Incognito function toggled, there will be no Incognito, and you will get banned if the eMMC you booted is dirty and connected to the internet.
  2. Incognito. Just run the installer from the homebrew launcher. You can also find this installer bundled with blawar's Tinfoil. Pro: once you install it, it's permanently installed (unless you manually restore your prodinfo from a backup). There's no risk of accidentally booting without it. Con: It makes a permanent change to the eMMC you install it to if you lose your prodinfo backup.
  3. Incognito RCM. This is pretty much the same as #2, but you launch the installer from an RCM payload.
I personally recommend #2 or #3. It should only be installed to whichever eMMC is dirty (which is usually the emuMMC). I personally don't play online at all, so I have it installed to my sysMMC, and I don't have an emuMMC.

When i use incognito RCM for EMumcc it says "Getting bis_key..." "unknown pkg1 version".
In my homebrew launcher i dont see an incognito tool.

You probably aren't using a version compatible with your emuMMC system version.

You have to download the Incognito nro and put it with your other homebrew applications on your SD card.

Alternatively, you can use blawar's Tinfoil to install Incognito. I think that's how most of the cool kids are doing it these days, since it's regularly updated to support newer system versions. You only need to install it once, and then it's installed forever, but the installer has to be compatible with your system version during the installation process.

Is there like guide how i do this properly via tinfool? I dont want to rush it and risk skipping out on a backup :)

You should already have a complete sysMMC backup. It should have been the first thing you did after you started hacking your Switch. This will include a backup of your prodinfo. Atmosphere also makes prodinfo backups onto the SD card that you can store somewhere safe on the cloud. Finally, you can also use something like Hekate to manually make a prodinfo backup, which you can also store on the cloud somewhere.

After opening blawar's Tinfoil, you can find a section where you can install or uninstall Incognito. I believe it makes a prodinfo backup somewhere hidden on the sysMMC or emuMMC (whichever you're running), so it's nearly impossible to lose it.

Oh right! I thought my emunand prodinfo was different, make sense yea i got those backups! :) thank you

The prodinfo is the same on both your sysMMC and emuMMC. That's why it's important to install Incognito to the dirty emuMMC so you don't get the whole system banned.

Where does the switch keep its update/ log file for games?

I am having issues with some games asking for updates. After trying multiple things that didn’t work. I decided to wipe the sdcard and start fresh. Re-partition the sdcard, reloaded atmosphere back on and just installed a few games that were asking for the update. These games are still asking for an update after the fresh install. No Wi-Fi is connected or configure on the switch in the emuMMC or SysMMC.

I’m guessing the switch must be storing what games need update from somewhere else, not the sdcard.

Dumb question, is there anyway to "disable" a mod chip once it's installed? Or are you forever using atmosphere?

Also, has anyone modded a switch light? Can you spoof "docked mode" for higher clocks and better graphics (game specific)?

I ordered a clone modchip just to test out on my later model switch. I also have a low serial number switch I bought for peanuts with a dead USB chip I just need to replace (Shipping is taking forever :()

guys, thanks so much. i managed to install tinfoil and downloaded some games and installed them. so far they are working fine.

wanted to ask another question.

i am running the hack on emummc. from emummc i run tinfoil and install games on sd card. now, when my son plays online on switch he runs OFW and his official games are saved in sd card as well as the builtin switch memory isnt large enough to install his games.

is that going to be a problem having all the games on sd card? is nintendo going to find out somehow that my sd card contains games that were not installed officially?

thanks

It is stored within the internal memory. Also that file is updated whenever you update your firmware which is why you shouldn't always update your firmware unless its absolutely mandatory or you're prepared to update every single game you have.

You cannot disable a piece of hardware; once its installed, its there forever. Modding a Switch Lite requires either the SX Lite modchip or one of its clones. Lastly, you can use Reverse-NX to trick the console into docked mode.

I don't understand how Nintendo is going to figure out where the games were downloaded from. Even in the even that they could, if Nintendo could scan for files on the SD card, everyone would be banned for having a partition for emuMMC or files for CFW/homebrew.

Thanks Draxzelex for the quick responce - Thanks for clearing that up, I will go find all the updates and only upgrade when I need to.
