Have you tried booting into RCM while the Switch is plugged into the computer with the USB cable? Also, if it starts charging when you plug in the cable, that means its not actually in RCM. If it is in RCM, it will never accept a charge.

Since the current tethered coldboot exploit works on all firmwares for current Switch revisions (Erista), there is no target firmware per se. There is a CFW named Atmosphere in the works that will implement EmuNAND support meaning users will be able to use the latest firmware alongside their hacks while maintaining their SysNAND firmware as low as possible. The reason you are seeing a lot of 4.x and 5.x is because the current way to load homebrew using the tethered coldboot doesn't have support for 3.x. This issue will be alleviated once Atmosphere is finished as it will be available for all firmwares to use.

Is Atmosphere still scheduled for June 15th? Asking because things can change at any time.

As far as know, yes. Nothing so far has impeded any of their progress so I don't think there will be any delays towards its completion

Thanks for your reply, hmmmm I thought it was in RCM because I never got the Nintendo splash screen.
I did try having the USB already connected, but when I used the jig, the splash screen kept coming on.

I'll have to do more testing, it seems as my jig is no longer working (based on your reply). Funny how it worked perfectly for a while and now it doesn't.

Thanks again, I'll give it another go (gave up through frustration).

I've encountered this type of problem even while it was connected to the PC. Nobody else seems to have documented this. What happened to me was I tried booting into RCM, Windows detected the APX device indicating I was successful as well as the fact that my screen stayed black, but then almost immediately the APX device was no longer listed even though my screen was still black. What I did at this point was to simply retry entering RCM at which point Windows detected the APX device again and it stayed detected. The only other time I've seen this type of problem happen is with Windows 10 users but you were able to load the payload at least once so your operating system is working appropriately with the Switch. I don't have a jig myself so I don't know how fixed the wiring inside it is, but some people have reported a lot of failures even with jigs. I personally use a paperclip and while it may not work 100% of time, as well as being dangerous to the pins, it gets the job done.
This guide will give you the entire installation process from start to finish: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-hacking-101-how-to-launch-the-homebrew-menu-on-4-x-5-x.504012/

The only step you will not follow is when it asks to download a payload called Hekate. You will immediately notice this when you see a 4.x and a 5.x but not a 1.x https://github.com/Jan4V/hekate-ipl-50x/releases/tag/v1.0.0 This is the one you need to download for 1.x

Many thanks again for the info.

When it was working I was able to deliver the payload via win 7 as well as Linux Mint, so no issues with OS here.

I actually tried again, but this time my jog is definitely not working i.e. always getting the splash screen. I also agree with you re using paper clip, I don't want to damage the pins.

I'm now trawling gbatemp and reading up on modding a joycon, seems to be a more sure fire way of getting the unit into RCM.

Knowledge is power, my friend :)

Temporary. Also be warned that that you cannot enter sleep mode with this hack called Hekate. If you do (by accident or something else), you just need the hold the power button for at least 10 seconds to manually turn it off.

Unless you are on the latest firmware, there is this 'super update nag' whenever you try to access anything that requires the Internet. So you can risk getting this notice with Internet access or you block off all wireless connections until we have a better solution

Is it possible that Nintendo can detect you have used stuff before like hetake, linux, etc and ban you for it? Can they do it if you aren't using them at the moment or are on Horizon OS?

Since everything we are currently running is non-permanent, they cannot ban us for using any of these hacks or homebrew UNLESS you are connected to the Internet. This is why most people are using airplane mode or using some sort of DNS blocking to avoid sending ban-worthy info to Nintendo.

So what you are saying is so long as you do not have the internet enabled on a 'cfw' you are safe elsewhere, ei: internet is enabled on original fw? Or do you need to always have airplane mode/dns on regardless of what fw is currently running?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question

The reason the tutorial recommends that size of SD card is not for the use of homebrew but because one of the steps of that tutorial involves backing up an approximately 32 GB NAND. If you still want to dump your NAND, you can use this to dump. It will dump the NAND into 15 2 GB parts. https://gbatemp.net/threads/rcm-payload-hekate-ctcaer-mod.502604/

You can follow the rest of the tutorial for setting up how to use homebrew.
Exactly. The moment the Switch is connected to the Internet, it will be sending all sorts of information to Nintendo that they can log/flag for banning purposes. If you want to avoid being banned, you would never connect online. However, being banned is essentially not being connected to the Internet.

Also, I'm a firm believer in no such thing as a stupid question :)
