There could be multiple problems here: SD card is fake, not being detected, bad game dumps, etc.

• Verify your SD card is not fake with .....
• Verify your dumps are legit with .......
• Try also doing this: Connect your sd card to a windows PC and select everything inside.
  Right click, properties, advanced, disable "folder/file is ready for archiving". Done.
• Format the SD card using Windows
• (Optional) Format the SD card in the Switch

I tried all of these but none of them solved my problem. What should I do?

If I buy a switch off of Amazon today (US) what are the chances that I would get a hackable version? Would I be better off going to a local gamestop and getting one there?

We don't know but historically, less bans have occurred due to people running pure homebrew and moreso because of piracy. The only other really risk hack are save editing/cheating.

So if my original Nand Backup doesnt work and I have to revert using the newer Nand Backup that I will do prior to restoring the original Nand backup will it contain log files that I have played backups without proper cert using SX OS? This would result probably in a ban?

Yes exactly but this depends if the original backup you made is good or not which you cannot verify without restoring it. This is why I recommended to make a new backup in case the old one doesn't work. Why worry about avoiding a ban if the console stops working after restoring your NAND backup?

I'm using SX OS 1.3 on my 5.1.0 Switch. Whenever I start a game, I'm prompted by a nagging box saying that it requires an update to be downloaded, or that I can start the software instead. How can I make the nag go away ?

From the Games required Firmware version thread...

1. First make sure you cancel the upgrade!
2. Then press the power button and hold for about 5 seconds
3. Choose power off
4. Hold down VOL+ and VOL- and pres simultaneously the power button
5. Choose update but do not update... instead cancel the process!
6. Shut down the console and restart normally

Is your SD card legitimate? Are your dumps legitimate? Are the games larger than 4 GB? Is your card formatted as exFAT? There's a lot of information that is missing which makes troubleshooting difficult.

Check the GameStop first to see if they have any hackable serial numbers. Check the Switch info by Serial Number thread for more details.

Hence, my switch still hasn't linked to a nintendo account. So my question is if I decided to get a firmware update in the future and get a console ban right after I connected to the internet, will I still be able to link a nintendo account after the ban?

Well you can never reduce the risk of a ban by 100% when hacking your console but the safest strategy is by making a NAND backup before doing any hacks on your console. Make sure you stay offline at all times after making a backup. You can do whatever hacks you want during this period. Then when you want to go online with as minimal a risk as possible, restore that backup you made. However, this is not an effective long term strategy as you will eventually wear out the Switch's eMMC. Think of it as an SD card glued into the Switch (but is interchangeable) that houses all of your data. Anyways, follow this thread for details on how to make a backup.

Hmm, that's actually a good question. The problem here is its virtually impossible to tell whether you are banned or not without linking a Nintendo Account in the first place. What I mean is you can still get game and system updates regardless of your ban status, but you cannot play games online or use the eShop without linking a Nintendo Account beforehand. There are currently no other ways to check if you are banned besides these two methods.

To be fair, most people wouldn't dare try removing that chip, let alone opening the console. Its a harmless metaphor so they have a better understanding of the Switch's internals. Maybe I should just remove the glued part.

I mean you could be banned at any point for going online with a hacked console so its not really a matter of will I be banned or not, its more of a when will I be banned (if ever). So as long as you didn't do any hacks while its remained offline, chances of being banned for linking a Nintendo Account are close to 0 (I wouldn't say 0 because even Nintendo can make mistakes).

New switches have the RCM vulnerability patched. If your going to buy a switch, buy a used one. Luckily, it's looking like they're shipping with firmware 4.1.0, which is vulnerable to deja Vu. If you do buy a atched switch, don't update or connect to the internet

Also, I don't know if you want to include under "Free Games" LayeredFS Backup Launching (LBL) but its up to you. Its buggy, not the intended purpose of LayeredFS, and soon to be replaced by a real free backup launcher.

Yeah. Trying to do this on my phone and it's obviously not going so well

I don't really want to include layeredFS because I'm trying to keep this more on the simple side and I don't want someone who knows next to nothing about the switch to get banned from trying layeredFS. It would be great for you if more people got banned tho
