Yes, any payload, patched consoles stay at a black screen.
Any reason not to upgrade? Well, all the consoles at 4.1.0=>will get warm/coldboot exploits, which are software based, so you won't need a jig in the future.

I am in Korea. None of the boxes in store have this hole showing the serial. Does that mean they're all post patch? Or am I just looking in the wrong location on the box? There definitely isn't such a huge hole like in the pic in op.

It is Asia box, you have to lift the inner tray and look from the front.

I've got a friend who used a SX pro on his switch. Is it possible to try something with his SX pro on my switch to check if my switch is patched ?

It is Asia box, you have to lift the inner tray and look from the front.

Actually the box is not sealed.
So you can open the box lid, take out switch console and look at the bottom of it or lift the tray to see serial number.

Your is fine. You can ask your friend to test your console with his sx pro without plugging in microsd card.
It should complain about not be able to find boot.dat that mean your console accept payload but conld not find boot.dat on microsd card.

The units in my store have security straps on them what would I need to hack a switch from an Android device? Just micro USB to mini SD card dongle?

I am not an android user.
You need NXloader app to send payload.
You need a cable to connect your android to usb c on switch. Any adapter in between is ok.

Thanks a lot for the answer. So I'll try as you said, Sx pro without SD card. And I guess that if I see the SX menu that's mean it's OK.

I was wondering something else: is it better to put the 5.1.0 firmware now? Can I do it trough the update menu directly on the switch or do it manually ?

If you keep it on 4.1.
I heard that in the future you may have a software exploited that you don’t need to go into rcm with required hardwar eg. rcm jig.

But for me, I dont mind put in the rcm jig to boot up to rcm mode and launch SX OS or Atmosphere from there.
So I updated my console to 5.1.0

Here's what I did:

1. Boot the console into RCM.

I used a small screwdriver wedged into the right joycon area towards the last two pins. Once it was in, I pressed and held volume up and pressed the power button. Nothing happened on the screen so I figured I was in RCM.

2. Connect the console to the computer with a USB cable.

If you open device manager, you should see something called 'APX'.

3. Launch TegraRcmGUI.

I downloaded it here: github dot com/eliboa/TegraRcmGUI (scroll down to the "Download" section and get the "Latest release")

4. When TegraRcmGUI opens, I believe a dialogue window should appear asking you to install the APX driver. Choose the option to install it.

If you have device manager still open, you should see the yellow triangle next to APX disappear.

5. In the bottom left of TegraRcmGUI, it should say RCM O.K. with a green background. If it says NO RCM with a red background, close and reopen TegraRcmGUI.

6. Download and extract biskeydump v6 from here:
switchtools dot sshnuke dot net

7. Select the payload (biskeydump.bin) by clicking the yellow folder+magnifying glass button in TegraRcmGUI.

8. Press the "Inject payload" button and on your console you should see something like this:

From what the other dude told me above, if you see this you're A-OK but if you just see a black screen, your console is patched
