An iPhone is an actual cell phone that will work wherever there is a cell phone tower nearby. SvSIP is an SIP client for the DS that only works when you have a compatible wifi access point nearby.

There are a few SIP providers that give you some free minutes (like Voipbuster) though there are limitations, and you'll have to sign up for a new account once your current one runs out of free minutes.

Then what is he talking about? I know there's a menu program for the DS that attempts to look like an iPhone menu, but it doesn't work for launching files.

shadowhunter93, what exactly are you trying to compare? Can you link to the two items?
