Super Mario Bros. Robot Player!
Skynet

A super secret video has been smuggled out of Skynet Labs. The new AI device is a master at many things including Super Mario Bros. World domination is next on the list, hopefully the time machine I am working on will save us all!

I didn't even have to read the description to know it's just reading instructions from a tool assisted speedrun into something that can press buttons.

Still nice though.

its not really an AI. it just plays back recorded emulator movie files, still kind of cool tho.

What really needs to happen is an actual AI that can intake even user-generated levels and defeat them.

Maybe we could borrow Watson from IBM...

Now imagine if that was an actual AI, with pathfinding and the like, rather than just the playback of a human recorded TAS.
Much like this:

If the two projects (or at least the concepts behind the projects) were to merge, the universe would either implode - or we'd be completely dominated at video games.

That guy must feel like he's accomplished something, here's to that robot builder: HEY! YOU,YEAH YOU! Get that thing to play Black Ops Multiplayer & maybe then we'll talk.

The choosing of pipes and the wall glitches prove it's not AI - AI would not understand the concept of choice or the concept of a glitch in a program, I thought it might just be real until the first coin room pipe, and knew it was fake for sure when it wall-glitched into the 1-2 warp room.

You could do this with a key-logging device quite easily.

EDIT: Never knew this though (explains 8-1), very cool, will have to try.

Theory:
Walljump happens because the game does a floor check (a simple "is there a solid block below him?" test) even during a wall-ejection. Wall-ejection is SMB's mechanism to push Mario out of a wall when he entered it partially. The game ejects Mario towards the opposite of his steering.

To perform a walljump, you need two things:

* Some horizontal speed towards the wall
* Mario's feet must hit the wall exactly at a block boundary (every 16 pixels)

It's possible to perform walljump from any non-lethal solid material (bricks, pipes, etc.)

1. Is this the world record time, TAS'd or not?
2. How do the times compare?
3. What other games can it do?
4. Can you hook it up to another device?
5. WHERE CAN I GET ONE?!?
