Found folders named "This", "is", "a", "test" and "thing" on my SD Card. One within the other like those little russian dolls. Just to be clear "thing" was at the bottom... and they were all empty.
Anyone have any idea what homebrew app could have caused this? Recently used steelhax but it also could've been Homebrew browser or anything else that comes with the starter kit, though I doubt that as it only appeared recently after Using the two other apps.

No public homebrew app does this... Did you give your 3DS's SDCard to someone, or did someone steal your 3DS's SDCard? There is no other option, since it's somewhat rare for a 3DS homebrew to download something on the SDCard from the internet. I highly doubt it's caused by a homebrew.

Edit: re-reading the OP again, unless you left your 3DS unattended between using the apps, and someone trolled you by copying these to the SDCard, you're the troll ;)

I don't see a point in taking screenshots. It's just one "This" folder with a series of folders inside.

And no, I didn't store nudes there, haha. My N3DS (11.0)was brand new when I got it and I've still got the stock SD card inside.
I only recently(three days ago I think) put homebrew on it though- just browserhax, tried menuhax for a bit and now switched to steelhax. Aside from the starter kit I got JKSM, screeninfo, homebrew browser and steelhax like I said.

Like I said it must've been created by either homebrew browser or steelhax, as before I installed those, I had no such folder on my SD card.

Did you ever leave your 3DS unattended for a longer period of time (more than 2-5mins)? No homebrew downloads/generates nudes to folders named like this. This definitely must be someone stealing your SDCard and putting the data manually on it.

That's not possible unless the devs suddenly turned into trolls.

someone used that card to store nudes, quick, use recuva or another file recovery.
i bet they are good nudes

PS: don't forget to send them to me via PM

there are no nudes, just empty folders "sd:\this\is\a\test\thing\

I misread everything today :<

Anyways, if the folders are empty, it's most likely a debug code left from testing a recursive mkdir, nothing special.

From what i remember an old homebrew on the 3ds did this. Wich one i cant realy remember.
Oh thank you. I didn't expect it to be malicious anyways but I'm still relived this is sorta 'known'. Anyways, should I be worried?

I'll delete it - or would anyone advise against doing this? - and then I'll JUST start homebrew browser, my prime suspect, and check again.

delete it ;) it is just test leftovers.. there is no data on it, the worst thing it can do is create them again

HEUREKA!
I found the culprit and it turned out to be my main suspect: The dastardly Homebrew Browser!

I looked through its source files from gitup and in /3ds-homebrew-browser-0.1/source/main.cpp I found the following line of code: mkdirp("this/is/a/test/thing");
There were other's with names like path to nonexistant thing or path to nonexistant thing exists!

Who's the troll NOW?!:P

Honestly, I'm just glad I figured this out.

Sorry :( As I said, I didn't fully understand what you tried to say (and I still don't understand it fully) :(

At least I was right about the leftover recursive mkdir test :P

(can you please write down the first paragraph in German, so I could understand what you tried to say? it's bothering me that I still don't understand what you tried to say)

Sure, no hard feelings.
I can't spot any mistakes but I don't speak English natively, maybe someone else can comment on my legibility?
