    Front-page RELEASE
    StepMania
Port of the popular cross-platform rhythm game simulator.

StepMania is a free and open source, cross-platform rhythm game. It supports common key-based rhythm game formats (including 4-panel and 5-panel dance games among others), as well as Switch controllers (joycons recommended for their individual buttons), keyboard and dance pad controllers (ex: Gamecube ones with adapter). It is customizable with user-made add-ons such as themes, and provides an integrated editor for creating your own simfiles.

    Getting Started

    Grabbing Binaries

You can download the latest release here on github: https://github.com/retronx-team/stepmania-nx/releases.
Extract the archive in the /switch folder on your SD Card. Then, run the game from the hbmenu using hbl.
Be sure to run it as an app, it won't work as an applet (you may get a black screen and/or crashes).

    Song Installation

You can install songs by simply putting them in a subfolder of your Songs-folder in the directory you installed Stepmania to. You can find for example a few packs of songs on Stepmania Online http://stepmaniaonline.net/index.php?page=downloads or Otaku's Dream Website here : http://www.otakusdream.com/downloads/.

Excellent, I didn't see this comming, this is one of my favorite games of all time (I like the "Pump It Up" variant a lot more) and have it for PC with a dance mat and all, interesting to see it ported to the switch.

I've never played this before but it looks interesting and fun. I'll try it out.

It's basically just a DDR clone. Hell, there are places you can find the files for the official DDR games and a near unlimited supply of custom song packs.
I'd advise picking up the StrawBerry Steps track pack. Absolutely brilliant pack of songs in there.

Hope it works with the gamecube adapter + gc dance pad for those who will do it that way. I only have a USB and PSX one though

I miss Space Channel 5. How is the Dreamcast emulation going for the Switch?

Holy crap! I have a reason to bust out my metal pads! I've been playing Stepmania since it's release many many years ago. And there's over 100,000 custom simfile/songs.

Hope we can change themes too! Easily the best Homebrew to come. Thank you!

Umm, I'm stunned. Totally wasn't expecting to see this ported to the Switch. My first experience with StepMania was the port for the original Xbox, and I've always felt glued to version 3.9, but I'll give this a shot. If this works with my metal DDR pads, I'll be stoked.

How bad is the input lag? For me the switch is barely playable for rhythm games.
The timing is way off with joycons on portable mode/cabled controller on dock mode.

Omg this is awesome! I spent much of my teenaged years playing DDR and ITG competitively inside my region, and couldn't tell you how many 1000s of hours I put into playing StepMania.
Now that it's on the Switch, if the input lag is low, and I can play this on the go, I have a feeling I'm going to be playing this until my Switch shuts off from low battery many times :)

OMG!!!! It works really nice, just some slowdowns on the menu (loading assets I guess).

It works pretty well, my only gripe is that if you have a video with your track, you will experience some lag. Its not unbearable and the PC version of stepmania had a way to not play videos (it's been a long time, so I could be wrong about this).
