Steins;Gate Re:Boot will be getting a localization next year

A remake of the popular 2009 visual novel, Steins;Gate, will be headed west. While the project had been formally announced since last year, new details and images were revealed in a press release. The remake will feature all-new backgrounds and character art, and will have new story events. Steins;Gate Re:Boot will be releasing sometime in 2026, with the only currently confirmed platform as Steam.

STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT revisits STEINS;GATE, which was originally released in 2009 for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, featuring updated visuals and new narrative content. The company today shared an early look at the enhanced graphics for the game, which is currently in development.

The game features refined character illustrations by character designer huke, along with event stills produced under huke’s supervision. Background graphics present a detailed depiction of Akihabara as it appeared in 2010, created using extensive reference materials.

Didn't it already get a partial remake with Steins Gate : Elite ? So this is the second remake ?
I'm sad to see japan getting creatively stuck like this. That said I did enjoy some remakes like live a live, super mario rpg, even older tales of destiny remake ps2.

Steins;Gate is a cow that's easy to milk compared to the rest of the series compared to the rest of the SciADV series.
Considering Anonymous;Code, the latest game in the series released was in a hellish 7-8 year development cycle and seemingly didn't sell all that well they are straight back to the golden cow it just sells really well.

Steins;Gate is one of the most enjoyable stories I've ever experienced; it's also one of the worst games I've ever played. There's like...5-6 actual choices in the visual novel, and none of them are even remotely identifiable as to what the choices mean or do. And there's *hours* of reading in between choices -and no flowchart. I haven't played any of the ports/remakes - just the original and Steins;Gate 0 - but if they respect your time/sanity more than the originals, I'm all for it.

That being said, I love Steins;Gate, and hope it does well.

Steins;Gate is very enjoyable VN, the original at least... but sure they like to milk the cow, first with a "let's put the anime cutscenes in there and call it a new game" milking of it, and then this "let's redraw the backgrounds", sure those udders must hurt by now.

And I don't mention all the spin-offs, or Steins;Gate 0, because they have something new in there, I mean some new story, either pure fanservice or a good sequel, but some new story after all... not the case in here.

And I agree with the previous posts, the originals are a pain to navigate, I guess you should have an external guide/flowchart to aid you, that's not ideal. No idea if any of the remakes fix this.

I'm more interested in Chaos;Head, why the hell is it always being forgotten? I'm honestly sick of Steins;Gate :'(
No idea about Chaos;Head... other than knowing that it exists... so I agree, it is always being forgotten :P
Robtics;Notes was... I prefer Steins;Gate.

Chaos;Head was released before Steins;Gate and only had a fan translation for a very long time. It did have a stealth release on Steam a few years ago, but it wasn't a new edition or anything.

Because something like Chaos;Child only sold one tenth of the units that Steins;Gate did even though Chaos; series is more interesting then Steins; series IMO. They want to milk the golden cow as much as they can.

They didn't really bother to try with the chaos series outside of Japan though.

So, is Chaos;Head actually good? I see it is on sale on the Nintendo eShop... I guess I will get it.
Well, maybe this thread worked well for me... and also for Spike Chunsoft... only not for the expected reasons.

I'd argue they try did Chaos;Child was released back in 2017 in English for PS4/Vita, 2019 for PC and 2022 for Switch and Chaos;Head 2022 for Switch/PC in English. The latter got a bit of press because of Valve was blocking the release on PC despite the game being sold at Walmart at the same time.

The Chaos;Head official translation and image editing is wonky though lol thankfully there's a fan patch.

I read in the eShop page that you can play it in Japanese even if you buy it in Europe... I will try that. I hope it works.

I love Steins;Gate, but the "new" renders look like weird Google Maps traces. Okarin's lab looks like a grandmother's house now. Well, granted, I've BEEN to the real Okarin lab and it IS a grandmother's house, but is that exciting as a game...?

Well yeah, but Chaos;Child isn't Chaos;Head, they also didn't bother to release both direct sequels, the Love Chu Chu games. They were more lighter themed but also gave a bit of a conclusion to each game.

The backgrounds look amazing while the characters look ....strange?
also the steam description says "all-new story", what's that about?

New Story Events - could be some silly scenes, could be some weird fan service or even could be something really interesting - think of it as maybe +one hour read time to get the same buyers again
Btw: if u played the old one - at release or 1-2 days later some guy will drop „all new story events“ in an yt video 😏

Edit: Steins:Gate wiki says story additions but still can be anything at this point

Edit 2: howlongtobeat listed the old game with these stats:
Main Story: 26 1/2 hrs, Main+Side: 35 1/2 hrs, 100%: 36 hrs

Steins;Gate Re:Boot on Steam says: 30-50 hrs playtime
That doesnt say anything at all but make of it want u want :)

I thought maybe they will include Steins Gate 0 but that game take like 28 hrs to complete with all side content
