Headcannon Games, known for their work on Sonic Mania, recently revealed a demo for a game they had been working on. The game was a spiritual successor to the Capcom developed Darkwing Duck game on NES, and would feature bosses from the Disney cartoon. It was pitched to Capcom sometime recently, but it wasn't picked up by the company. A 5-minute video of the game was uploaded to YouTube by Stealth, showing off what the game might have been like. A playable version of the demo was also put on Heacannon's official site, for fans to download for themselves. Aaron Sparrow, writer for Darkwing Duck worked alongside Disney comic artist James Silvani for the sprite art in the demo, and there were plans to have voice acting from the original show's cast as well. If you want to get dangerous, the download link is below.

Just what we needed, a grapple hook. :P

Looks good, though could use more defining gimmicks, like more gadgets. Even make it like a mega man clone where you fight bosses, get new gadgets. Or the same thing but with metroid.

Why was this pitched to capcom rather than disney anyway?

This would have been a great 3DS game.

Maybe they can make some games based on cartoons no one owns the rights to?

Might as well retool it as Bionic Commando. I guess they hoped to ride on the success of NES Ducktales remake by Wayforward but I don't think Darkwing Duck has enough nostalgia pull to get Capcom and Disney to work out a deal.

Off topic but I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom will release Disney Afternoon at full price for the Switch.

I'm not into retro games, but that would've been a cool game

Seems like a really cool concept. They will very likely retool it into something else really cool with the same bases.

Welp, they just gave Capcom an idea. I bet Capcom would be their own Darkwing Duck game now.

Well, seeing how Sonic mania was a huge success, I say Crapcom are complete idiots for letting Whitehead down.

Well, seems more like a romhack of the original game to me tbh, but I'd still play it anyway since I loved the original Darkwing Duck on NES and Game Boy.

Having been a huge fan of the Darkwing Duck games, especially the GBC one (played that one start to finish with every palette combination at least 3 times each), this looks like something I'd actually buy! Great, simple yet catchy music from the originals, nicely made sprites, no weird collisions (common issue with platformers and DD had some of the best collision checks of it's time so no weird "how did I get hit?" problems), no stupid over the top gadgets (yes, grapling hook and gun is all it needs, if you need flashy stuff to make a good game it just means the base underneath isn't that good and you are just covering it up) and so on, too bad it got rejected, but I'm sure Disney could just license it and publish it themselves...

waste of time asking CRAPcom they don't care anymore they are nothing like they were in the 80/90's when they used to make these great games.

I agree, pitching a game that has no potential for microtransactions and added monetization to Capcom that isn't Monster Hunter is never gonna work, same goes for most other AAA publishers nowadays...

Honestly, I'd think it's more the licensing with Disney that's the problem. Sega could just say "sure, go ahead" and if the game doesn't sell that well, they don't lose too much on it. On the other hand, Capcom has to make deals with Disney, Darkwing Duck isn't even close to as popular as Sonic, and the retro style would likely turn younger players off. I would have liked to see the full game, but it's not THAT weird for it not to get greenlit, and I'm sure they'll rework some of the assets/engine into another game.

Yeah - although Capcom have the license for the game, they'd need to renegotiate with Disney to use it again... and as Disney's involvement in the development of MvCI is a massive reason why that game dissappointed so many fans of the series, I can see why Capcom would be hesitant to deal with them again.
