What Game Version do you have? If it's not 3.x then it is not supported as of now (we will add backwards compability later)

I'm using the cartridge version of the game so I'm guessing 1.0

Don't want to download updates because of the whole not getting hacks later thing

You're gonna be able to install hacks on later firmware. There's no reason not to update on 5.0.2 since all you need is a paperclip and a payload that loads CFW. Just update splatoon 2, play the game until it saves and then use checkpoint

I've seen a lot of talk about keeping it low, and knowing the 3ds scene lower is usually better

I'm not complaining, just didn't find an explanation for why it didn't work. Nothing I can do but wait

Yeah, 1.0 is not supported right now. We will add support for older savegame revisions at a later date

It's probably been answered before, and i apologize, but how exactly do i retrieve the save data for my game?
my switch is unmodded, so I do not know if that's going to make this impossible.

you can use hekate to launch the switch hbl and checkpoint/nuts to dump/inject your save. there are some guides for entering rcm and injecting the payload.

I mostly need to make sure i place the files correctly since i'm terrified of messing up my console somehow xD

nice twitter tag. also, we have no idea what this guy actually did. in his thread he says he edited all chunks to be 999 and snails to be 300, which is pretty impossible to do without save editing at the moment and not smart at all on his part. if you use the tool in a way that isn't dumb, you won't get banned. don't fearmonger

this is a good guide tbh. you don't necessarily need to follow all the steps, just the ones that involve hbl and dumping/injecting your save (again, checkpoint or yallarenuts).

i mean sure, i could've been less of a dick. it just amused me tbh.

also, "this guy got banned using this tool" doesn't quite sound like "this guy got banned for doing something stupid with this tool", but that's another topic.
