When Sony announced that they would leave DRM to third party publishers, it brought confusion among many fans. Scott Rohde spoke about this issue and his personal opinion of the matter.

So no form of online passes will be available for the PS4. Probably one of the better moves Sony has done but I wonder what will companies like EA or Ubisoft come up with next.

They don't need any DRM because all Xbox players are moving to the PS4.

Oh, come on, Sony. Everyone's giving you a free pass! Pay it forward, man.

While I loved the PS4 conference, this is already getting ridiculous. Sony just needs to say "we won't add DRM or online only in any way" and everyone will cheer. It shouldn't even be questioned. As long as consoles are dedicated platforms and don't run on universal specs (like the Windows PC side), no platform should be online only since the day the servers go down, the device is unusable.

    Also #PS4MasterRace reporting in.

I have to say that Sony is gaining a lot of respect in my book, almost to the point that they might gain my purchase. If Sony wants to attempt to limit DRM, won't that just drive publishers to increase in DLC use?

It's up to the publishers, not Sony. If a pub wants to use online passes, Sony's decision not to use them for their games doesn't mean jackshit.

For Sony, it's no different. For Microsoft, it is different. Microsoft's footing the bill for their DRM and the infrastructure it needs.

Anime character name > probably posts dumb stuff.

I cant believe how hard Sony blew the doors off at E3, after it was all doom and gloom for the XBone presentation. I mean before i saw the PS4 stuff, i was a bit underwhelmed by the MS conference, but when Sony showed up and pulled out all the stops, looking back you can see how poorly the Xbone went over.

I can see most Western publishers implementing online DRM on their games and used game DRM, but Japanese publishers no, used gaming in Japan is the definition of too big to fail, if there is DRM in one it'll be the same as this gen (online passes) and it will be sparse at best, few games there now have them.

You say that and I do not doubt issues would be faced but the... interesting attitude to region locking exhibited by a lot of the devs in Japan is potentially a bit damaging to the land of milk and honey image you try to cast there.
