Hacking Softmodding with modchip?

I had a friend of mine add a modchip to my wii many years ago. I don't remember what modchip it was but I think it had to do with soldering??? Anyway, it is at system menu 2.2U. My question is, is it okay for me to softmod it now and then everything will still be as if I had just softmod it from a previously non-modded wii? If softmodding works, I will buy a game with 4.x update and then follow the bannerbomb method softmod it. But I don't want to do that yet if the old mod-chip I have in my wii will mess up anything.
