Hey, was wondering if anyone's come up with any fixes yet for Wii U version of BOTW?

I'm still on EUR version 1.00 if that makes a difference.

  2. It's just how the game was made and the hardware it's running on. It is what it is and an update can't do much.

Wii U version is always going to have the lag it has. The game is too intensive to stay 100% fluid on the Wii U. For the switch however, turning off WiFi will remove most to all lag, and Nintendo will be issuing a system update soon to patch the issue so you don't have to turn off the WiFi for the Switch.

Apparently the v1.1 update (or v33 depending where you look) does help frame rate drops in certain places on WiiU. I know that there've been only a few occasions where lag has spiked, and that's usually when there are lots of particle effects around (mist, glowy things, grass, rain, etc). Easily playable when running off internal HDD.

An idea would be to try to find and delete / replace shader files for added fullscreen effects if these exist. Or find a way to reduce / remove the shadows. Maybe there is also a config file hidden somewhere, allowing to change graphical settings.

Another option would be finding Actionreplay-like cheat codes to modify the internal resolution or to switch certain graphical effects on or off, even though these would be very hard to find. But there must be memory addresses that control these settings, since the game uses a dynamic resolution engine.

Is the game based on Unreal engine (Nintendo said they mastered it) ? This information could help to locate the files to modify but I am not a game designer and have no idea.

In system settings, change output resolution to 1080i. Big help.

Why are you on 1.00? You should download the update.

Just update the game right from the console.
It's safe, even if you got it through... ahem, "dirty" means.
    Can't brick it so easily.

So with a USA wii u and a EUR .tik version of 1.00 I can simply connect my wii u to the internet and download the update with no issues?

Would I need to run haxchi before updating? Do I continue to run haxchi after downloading the update?

Keep it on 720p, seemed to help mine. What it does is keeps the Wii U from having to upscale it.

If your TV didn't auto upscale then you'd likely only be filling part of the screen if its a 1080p TV. If its not a 1080p TV, then it does not need to upscale.

Ah, no. For games from other regions you can't update right from the console.
But you can get the update from apps like Wii U USB Helper or FunKii-UI and then install it just like you installed the game.
It's a big update too, more than 2GB.

I've read 1080i is better. Fewer lines rendered per frame and all. Could be a bunch of hogswash anyway. Isn't it rendered at 900p internally and upscaled by a different part of the GPU?

  16. Does decreasing resolution really help?

I think the Switch runs at 900p in docked mode. The Wii U runs at 720p.

TBH, I think it does but it could also be cerebral. I certainly still get lag at times either way, but the question is maybe less? I tried it since BotW runs at 720p figured it couldn't hurt, not gaining anything by playing at 1080p.

Decreasing resolution doesn't really help performance since the filter the Wii U uses to upscale is very low quality. However, because of that, setting resolution at 720p and letting the TV upscale it usually looks better, unless the upscaler in the TV is somehow worse than the Wii U's. But in most cases it's better to leave it at 720p and just change it to 1080p for the few games that are 1080p.

It's ridiculous. Every populated center lags noticeably and really pisses me off.
