Hacking SNES custom VC titles black screen

I've got a US 3ds xl on 9.2 sysnand and 10.7 emunand using rxtools. I have no problem with the basic 3ds titles, and even have GBA titles running successfully by installing to sysnand and/or emunand. However, if i try to install any custom vc title on either sysnand or emunand, I get a black screen. No error. It just freezes the console and I have to hold down the power to cut it off. What am I doing wrong?

are you using a N3DS because snes titles are N3DS only

Ah ok. No I didn't know that. I'm using o3ds xl. What else am I restricted from besides SNES, xenoblade chronicles?

and Binding of Isaac, better performance in a couple of titles like MHX and Hyrule Warrior Legends (which goes from unplayable on O3DS to perfect on N3DS) Retail wise that's about it. Homebrew wise N3DS clockspeeds on old games (better performance for the most part by doing so), Video streaming via NTR and better performance in certain emulators.
