Purhaps, but you'd still need to be hardmodded in order to restore.
Yeah I know. I'm just hoping for a way to create a NAND backup so we can make failsafe backups before attempting the downgrade. That way the worst case scenario is that a hardmod will be needed to restore, rather than having to send the 3DS to Nintendo.

I've been away from the scene a long time, these are great developments. Is there a tutorial on getting backups and region free working after downgrading? And does that stuff still require a flashcart? About to buy a N3DS...

Gotcha, I'm sure it's possible, it's just getting someone to write it.

Hacking section has tutorials on cfw, no cart required

Actually yes, just look up how to do it on whichever version you downgraded to. Getting access to homebrew is a good start. Find whichever cfw works for you is another place to start. There's a whole forum for cfw.

Also, the files that go into the folder are the update cias, you can find them on that iso site and they go into the updates folder. If you're having trouble following the tutorial, please do not do a downgrade yet. Please wait until it is safer and easier, it will be less than a week, we are sure. You will probably not be able to fix your system if something goes wrong, do not risk it.

No to flashcart

That is a github release, not a scene release. And it includes many, many warnings about bricks because of the nature of the coding. There is a newer version by steveice10 that writes data in a safer way to help lessen the effects of bricks. Please do not spread this version around at this moment because too many people are using it incorrectly and damaging their systems.
