Friivolution - It’s like Riivolution, but you can use backups!

This version can be called by USB loaders the same way Nintendont is, so they don't need to implement its features, they just need to call Friivolution to launch the specific game.

Their twitter account posted this before the official release:

"If you thought Friivolution was cool, wait until you see this! Project 2 is even cooler than that. USB Loader GX with Riivolution mod support!"

Actually, Dragon91Nippon is correct.

I contacted NGT privately to inform them of the multiple issues that come with their original approach, and suggested something which I've mentioned elsewhere before, which was that if someone were to modify Riivolution, they should make it accept boot arguments like Nintendont. That way, the USB loader only requires very minor changes, and the people working on Friivolution only need to apply fixes and changes to one project.

Since they've implemented my suggestion, I can say that the next USB Loader GX update will officially support booting mods via Friivolution.

Could this also be turned into a patched iso/wfbs extractor? Could it have a "Apply Patch and Backup" option?
I think the idea is that you don't need to patch ISOs to use mods with this.

There are already ISO patchers out there. Patching an ISO with this is out of scope. What would be better is for someone else to develop a more user friendly ISO patching tool.

Perhaps this belongs in the Other M Redux thread, but has anyone gotten this mod to work with Friivolution? I put the Other M XML (and json) inside sd/riivolution and the game files themselves inside sd/riivolution/Other M Redux/

Friivolution recognizes the patch and lets me choose what to apply, yet it still launces the base game every time.

Totally understood on the purpose of this, but as it relates to Riivolution patching of disc images it might be a useful extra feature for those who want to take the same patched-game experience from Wii to Dolphin or whatever the case may be.

Does this mean we don't have to manually build an iso for mods like retro rewind everytime there's a mandatory update? Because if so that makes this homebrew even better!:grog:

I respect the work of those two brit brothers who are behind CTGP-R but I really really don't like their commitment to this bullshit antipiracy well long after Nintendo themselves stopped selling Mario Kart Wii and have no plans even to rerelease it - like what is the point of this antipiracy now?
I agree, as much as i appreciate and respect their work the restrictions put in place (needing a disc for the launcher, needing a nand backup in order to play online with dolphin) just drive players away if anything. I mainly stopped playing ctgp-r because updates would take forever and manually updating everytime was such a hassle

Is there anyone with knowledge on Wii U homebrew who can take a crack at getting a Wii U Wii VC forwarder to work with Friivolution (Gamepad as a classic controller support)? Would really like to play something like the Galaxy games using the classic controller riivolution hack that was released a while ago using the gamepad to do so.
I'm not too sure on it but i can give it a shot
