Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse Story Trailer released

Atlus has uploaded the english story trailer for their latest entry into the Shin Megami Tensei series.
The story of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse is one of human pawns being shuffled across a chessboard by the higher deities. One lone Hunter, the game’s protagonist, meets an early demise and through a pact with a lesser god, is brought back to life in exchange for his pledge of servitude. From there, the protagonist allies with other Hunters in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Tokyo beginning a plot that crosses over with the events of the original Shin Megami Tensei IV.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse is set for a Q3 2016 North American release, exclusively on Nintendo 3DS.

Hmm... Flynn seems to have a bigger role than I thought he was going to have. I could've sworn they said the main characters were gonna be included but be relegated to the sidelines. Oh well, not complaining. Please... release in early-mid July. Late June has Zero Time Dilemma. August has No Man's Sky (unless it gets delayed yet again) and Legion, and September has FFXV and hopefully Persona 5. And those are just the ones I know of. July will be empty and the rest of the summer will be packed...

Amazon's got the date as Sept 20, and more often than not the placeholder dates end up being the proper ones with Atlus games.
I just looked up the release date of a bunch of Atlus games, both their JP and NA release dates. They were all random dates, unlike this one which is due "Summer 2016" with a placeholder release date of the last Tuesday of the summer. Of course, it's still possible that placeholder will be the official release, but it seems like just a placeholder to me.

FUCK THEM NO RELEASE DATE FOR EUROPE!

If they happen to release a retail European limited edition also including SMT4 (that I already own in the only-digital European version), I will buy.
If they release them both separately as retail in Europe, I will buy.
Fuck ATLUS, even if you go only-digital again I will buy, fuck you!
But why, why the hell not even a mention of releasing on Europe?!
Do you want me to pirate so bad? Why ATLUS, why?
Really, fuck you ATLUS!

Other than the "lol Europe" reason that Atlus normally has. There's no EU release date because there is no EU publisher. NISA stopped partnering with Atlus, as Atlus were being unreasonable and increasingly hard to work with. Which isn't a suprise, NISA had been doing a good job for EU, so of course Atlus can't have that.

Which leaves us with no publisher. SEGA EU recently said they are interested in publishing Atlus games in EU, but is basically damage control as just before that SEGA said it's up to Atlus who publishes their games in EU, as even though we own them, Atlus are treated independently.

Even if SEGA EU are interested, this is who your faith will be put in

Sega can't even be bothered to publish their own games. You may as well get ready to pirate the game, because it's either not going to come here, or it will be years later.

They're two completely different stories. It's not an enhanced or "Golden" version. It's not really a sequel either. More of a sidequel, I guess.

Something more like a "what if" scenario based on the Neutral Route from SMTIV, I think, as they follow some of the events of the original game...

Might have to try one of these games soon
I recommend starting with Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker (it is an advanced remake of the DS version, it has no plot relation to Devil Survivor 1). If you're into old school dungeon crawlers, try Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey on DS.

I'm kinda new to SMT series and I heard there are 3 paths (?) in this game so..
So.....? What? I don't follow.
In most SMT you have multiple paths.
The basic chaos/neutral/law alignment based paths are typical of the series.
That also applies to <insert your smt game name here>

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Ok yes they were both made by Rare, but DK was from Rare back then, Rare now is owned by MS. So makes since.
