    Alright, so due to my desperation on this issue I decided to make an account here. Lately I bought 2 microsd SDHC cards, and they were brand new. I did the whole method of powering off the switch, inserting the card, e.t.c. But when i turned on the Switch I didn't get the update to format the SD card, and I tried again with the other card. Both weren't read by the SD card reader which sucked because I also bought another one not long ago and it didn't work either. Brought it to my friend to test it out on his Switch, and it worked on his. I knew it was the SD card reader but I didn't know what to do. I never teared down my console (Other then my 3ds to get a sd card from there) and I am kind of desperate. I really need help on this because I need the storage, and it sucks knowing that I am not able to use my sd cards.

    There's nothing anyone here can do. You're going to have to pay to have to fixed unless you know how yourself. It's risky (and expensive) to go through Nintendo because they might send you back a patched console then no more hacking until there's a solution for patched consoles. So you might try to find someone locally ie Craigslist.

    For future reference and I don't know 100% if this what caused it with you but I believe removing their sd card over and over is causing the reader to go bad for some people. Learn how to usb install for games and use nxmtp for file transfer so you never have to remove your sd card. They're not that hard to learn and it might have saved you from this issue and might save you from having another similar issue.

    Just replace it yourself, literally clip in and out, the reader slots are cheap, most likely a slot issue.

    I'll check it out, but how do you know if the reader might be broken?

    Well if your switch can't read SD cards but your friends is fine with the same sd, sounds like the most likely cause.

    Thank you! I'll try that out, but is taking the plastic cover out of the Switch risky? Like I said before, I haven't tore down my console, and I don't know how to remove the plastic cover or the sd reader.

    Nope you just remove the 4 tri wings, 1 under kick stand near SD slot, 2 center joycon rail ones, one at top and two at bottom, total of 10 screws, then you remove the screw holding the sd reader, carefuly take it out *don't yank it, if you use good tweezers and just pop it out you won't damage the sd reader socket* then click in a new one.

    @JorgeyPorgey

    Just be careful with the triwing screws bro because they can be quite fragile and easily deformed if you put to much force on it.
