So the other day I spent 100 bucks on a new pair of Nike's in hopes that I'll go out running and start to lose this weight I've got. I spent that much because it was the only pair that was comfortable for me as there's something up with my right foot/leg. Anyways,

what's some good work out music? I mean music to get me pumped, keep me going, motivation, you know.

And yes, obviously I'm going to download the Rocky montage theme.

Kavinsky's Outrun - It's an incredible "driving" album, but I think it should be fine for workouts, too. (Here's a preview of one of the tracks.)

Beyond that...
  • Almost anything AC/DC
  • Billy Squier - The Stroke, Everybody Wants You, Lonely is the Night, Rock Me Tonite are particularly good choices.
  • Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero (What? It's plenty manly!)
  • Childish Gambino - Heartbeat
  • Daft Punk - Aerodynamic, One More Time, Harder Better Faster Strong, Around the World, Face to Face... the list goes on.
  • David Bowie - The Next Day, Young Americans, Diamond Dogs, Modern Love, etc.
  • Deadmau5 - Ghosts n' Stuff (Not much of a fan, but even I'll admit it's a damned good song.)
  • Deep Purple - Hush
  • Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen (Trust me on this one)
  • Duran Duran - The Reflex, Hungry Like the Wolf, Rio
  • Electric Light Orchestra/ELO - Mr. Blue Sky, Turn to Stone, Poker, Don't Bring Me Down, Twilight
  • Elton John - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, The Bitch Is Back
  • Faith No More - Epic
  • Garbage - Automatic Systematic Habit
  • Genesis - Invisible Touch, Land of Confusion
  • Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill
  • Guns N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle, Shackler's Revenge, Better, Paradise City, You Could Be Mine, Yesterdays
  • Halestorm - I Miss The Misery
  • The Heavy - How You Like Me Now
  • Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills, The Trooper, Number of the Beast (fair warning, this one has something of a lengthy intro), Rime of the Ancient Mariner (if you enjoy running to metal versions of Romantic poetry, which you should, because it's awesome)
  • J. Geils Band - Centerfold, Freeze-Frame
  • Joe "Bean" Esposito - You're the Best
  • Journey - Escape, Wheel In The Sky, Stone in Love, Anyway You Want It, Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
  • Kanye West - Stronger, Power
  • Ken Ashcorp - Ryder or Riot
  • Modest Mouse - Dashboard
  • Motley Crue - Kickstart My Heart, Livewire
  • Old Gods of Asgard - Children of the Elder God, Balance Slays the Demon
  • Paul McCartney and Wings - Jet
  • Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell, Not Now John
  • Poison - Talk Dirty To Me
  • The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
  • The Protomen - Light Up The Night, The Hounds
  • Queen - Bicycle Race, If You Can' Beat Them, Fight From The Inside, Death on Two Legs, Keep Yourself Alive, I Want It All, Let Me Live, Hammer to Fall, Stone Cold Crazy, Princes of the Universe, The Show Must Go On
  • Rob Zombie - Dragula, Superbeast, Brick House, Blitzkrieg Bop
  • Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55
  • Simon & Garfunkel - Cecilia
  • Stan Bush - The Touch
  • Starship - We Built This City
  • Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
  • Styx - Renegade, Blue Collar Man (Long Nights), Too Much Time On My Hands, Mr. Roboto, The Grand Illusion, Come Sail Away
  • Survivor - Eye of the Tiger, I Can't Hold Back
  • Tears for Fears - Mad World, Shout, Head Over Heels
  • Tenacious D - To Be The Best, The Road, Master Exploder, The Metal, Low Hangin' Fruit, Explosivo
  • Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak, Dedication, Waiting for an Alibi
  • Tom Petty - American Girl, Breakdown, I Need To Know
  • TV On The Radio - DLZ
  • Van Halen - Jump, Panama, Right Now, Why Can't This Be Love
  • Wolfmother - Woman
I just picked some songs that are generally fast paced and exciting, have some encouraging (more or less) lyrics, or both. Obviously not every track is going to suit you, but hopefully there's some suggestions you'll like in there.

Great list! Here's what I got so far. I want to go running in a bit for an hour or so. Keep running until I can at least start trying to do sit ups. I actually can't do sit ups ever since I had surgery on my back.

Keep in mind that if you're just getting into running, you might want to be careful about pacing yourself. Try a program like The Coach to 5K.

It starts off slow, sure, but it all builds up, and it's better to pace yourself now than to strain yourself on your own.

Yeah I did pretty good I think. I ran for like 30 minutes. I downloaded a pedometer on my phone, it said I ran 3.25km. Now I know it's not the best. But I weigh 225 pounds and 5'6'', and it's not muscle, well it is, but it isn't toned. So I have a lot of weight to carry.

I jogged as best as I could, and when I couldn't jog properly, instead of walking I was doing like the short jog steps. Then on the last bit I ran as fast I could to the house. The music makes a huge difference.

Listening to Kelly Clarkson, ACDC, the Rocky theme, some Daft Punk. And then on the last bit when I had no energy left, this song came on and I pushed myself.

Make sure you get some good running earphones. It really pisses me off when they fall out.
