Someone needs to make an English patch of this game because Capcom officially said that they have no plans of releasing the game in the West. I wanted to make this topic so someone will at least consider making a patch. If I knew how to do anything, I would, but i don't.

I believe this should be in the translation request thread but whatever. I really would not get your hopes up for a translation of this game since the only part not already in English is the cross-over event/ story arc. If you do not mind not having that part then my suggestion is to just play the GBA version of the game.

I believe that this game should be playable in English completely. Even if the graphics on the menus are still in Japanese, the text should be completely translated.

I hope that the game is translated too, but most translators on here passed it up when it first got dumped since the GBA version is in English, but if someone did get decide to do this translation then it would be easier essentially, since the GBA script is in English.

That does not necessarily mean anything. If the tables are arranged very differently (which is likely), or if the encryption is too complex, or anything along those lines, it's easier to just translate the new script.

Also, this crossover looks like shovelware shit. I'd rather just enjoy the GBA version, which is really nice.

This thread looks like noob feeding grounds. The game sucked, had no innovative remakes save for a small sample of SF series.

I have heard the GBA localizations were butchered somewhat, but it's still completely unnecessary. There's not really anything special about the DS port, besides being for DS and having that minor crossover. The crossover isn't even done well. I'd not even bother with it, and i doubt anyone will pick it up to translate. There doesn't seem to be much interest in translating these Megaman RPG's. There was one on GBA, 4.5 Real Operation, that was Japan only and never got a translation (one was planned but abandoned).

Really though, the port was cheaply made and a cop out. Capcom's laziness at its finest. They could have made the game truly unique and great, especially with the crossover thing, but they didn't.

Making a Translation of the game is damn simple :
Shift-JIS is used.
Okay, then. What's needed now, in that case, is the name of the file storing the script, and an idea of what pointer range it's stored in.

I don't think translating the whole game is neccessary. If you played MMBN1 you would know what's going to happen n' stuff. Except the Clockman part. It would be much more enjoyable if someone translated that.

That was like a random, little mini-rant that was going on about nothing anybody said--especially Sanderino
huh.gif
I feel the need to answer lol

The first game was hardly extensive--you could only upgrade your Mega Buster & HP and buy 3 armors pieces out of the entire game. It was straightforward, barely any side missions besides exploring by jacking into random objects. That's why Sanderino said "If you played MMBN1 you would know what's going to happen n' stuff."

Yes, millions of fans, so what? Obviously thousands don't know Japanese, why else do we have these threads? Yes, but butchering everything has nothing to do w/ Sanderino talking only about the new Clock Man part. Not sure what the "theory" was for, but of course a noob wouldn't brag about something he/she didn't do.

Zwah, I'm not pushing for a translation; just wanted to address this

Dammit, I really want to do this. I translated FFIV DS and would love to do this, but I'm heading to Thailand soon to teach English. I'm barely going to have time for the internet, let alone hacking a DS game.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
