Hacking Retiring Gateway

Hi guys,

I’ve been out of the game for a while but looking to get up to speed with the latest methods.

I currently have a 3ds running 4.4.0-1 0E and would like to upgrade to the latest CFW to allow me to continue playing my .nds and .3ds files aswell as the latest ones to come out. Am I right in thinking bootstraps the way forward ? I’m apprehensive about anything that has to connect o the internet.

I have gateway installed - by that I mean I remember having to do something to the SD card when I first got gateway. What would be the best way to start fresh - would it be safe to say wipe the SD card or is there a reset method to follow first ?

I understand I’ll obviously have to upgrade OFW aswell but just not sure of the steps or the order of these.

Any help or guidance is appreciated !!

Lumas is the way (bootstrap). Just follow this and ditch gateway.

Try to install boot9strap from that firmware, it will be easier.

The entrypoint you were using for gateway was mset (using a DS flashcard to install hax to the user settings and triggering it in System Settings).

If the guide doesn't work come back and post here.

No, don't format. And don't update first. I just said things would be easier from your current firmware.

I get that, but I have limited knowledge on boot9strap. Am I to take it once it’s installed I can upgrade to the latest OFW without any problems or would this risk bricking ?

How would I play the latest files without being on the latest firmware.

Everything is said in the guide. Once you have CFW, you can do whatever you want (even update/downgrade).

You install boot9strap first, then update. There's little risk in bricking, and it's recoverable anyway since you can restore a nand backup once you have boot9strap.

And yes, you can run latest whatever on the latest firm.

My last concern was just about what I’d previously done to the SD card for gateway. I didn’t really get what you meant before other than you’re right in the sense I had to go to the settings menu to boot the gateway fw.

I shouldn’t need to remove any files from the SD to get rid of gateway and it shouldn’t affect the move to bootstrap ?

You don't need any uninstallation of gateway.

One more thing, since your last firmware # is a 1, this means you did a cart update and the soundhax install method won't work. I believe this is what you need:

Your gateway blue card should be what you need to install the mset exploit.

This is what you wrote in your OP.
4.4.0-1 0E

I see now that you might have accidentely put a space there and you meant to put 4.4.0-10E
In that case, carry on and use the soundhax method
