Hi there. Dunno if this is the right place to post this, feel free to move it to some other part of the forum.

I'm developing a game for N3DS with Unity and i wanna give it a nice 3D banner, but so far im finding zero information on how to make a banner.
Unity allegedly has a way to add 2D banners easily but it crashed my builds so i stopped trying with that.

anyone successfully added 3D banners to any homebrew of yours? or found a tutorial on how to use banertool out there? the github has zero information. It couldn't have less information.

There's actually a way to make it without Nintendo's SDK. However, I think that without the SDK you aren't able to add custom animations or prevent the model from spinning.

Is very easy to do it without the SDK actually. You just need to make a model with a single object named "COMMON" and all the textures must be UV Maps of bmps images named "COMMON" or "COMMON[2 Numbers]". You have to export the object with mtl and use Every File Explorer for transform the object into a bcres which can be turned into a banner.bin using bannertool.

There's a thread explaining this with more details and all the steps. The thread is named "[Tutorial] Creating 3D banners from 3D Models for CIA's". It would still be great if you could upload the tutorial of making a banner with the SDK. Tho, im not totally sure if we can say how to use the SDK here...

that tutorial didn't help me much, i couldn't convert models into banners with bannertool for some reason (i did manage to convert audios with it, so it's not like i didn't figure out how it works) and my method using the SDK is actually pretty easy too, once you have all the software running and the workflow sorta memorized. I'll make a guide soon enough. If in the meantime someone can tell me if that's legal it would be great lol.

are you using haxchi, tiramisu or aroma?
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    yeah
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
no, I'm asking which one of them you are using
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    aroma
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
in that case, there is no such thing as homebrew launcher for aroma
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
you have to launch your homebrews directly from the wii u menu
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
there is a plugin that display them on the wii u menu, pretty sure it is enabled by default
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    so like it doesnt exist
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    yeah
    ?
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
it doesn't exist, at least not for aroma
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    ohhhhh
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
on tiramisu you can access it by opening mii maker
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    okay
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I don't have a wii u anymore to test it myself, but if homebrews are not visible on the wii u menu I think you can press L + R + minus to open the plugin menu, there should be an option called "homebrews on wii u menu" or something similar
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    nope
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    it is L+dpad down+ select
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
but homebrew is appearing in the home menu btw
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
    yes, now I remember it
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
then it is working, I also don't like that they did this but it is the only option you have if you are using aroma
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
i just didint know the homebrew launcher didint exist in aroma
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    thanks btw
