Some quick questions for you.
Have you installed CFW (hacked) on your 3ds? Check here if you haven't:

Before you can use NTR you need to have CFW installed. After you have done everything I posted above, you just need to create a folder on the root of your SD card and label it "plugin." Then save the contents of the "SUMO" folder inside the "plugin" folder and load your game.

earlier I tried trading my brother my Lycanroc but it was a level 5 and a message popped up saying there was a problem with my pokemon during trade. i figured you could only get him level 25 to be legit so I used rare candys to up it to 25 and the trade went through. so I think as long as its at the right level and has moves that it can legit use then the trade should be ok
Met location matters, your Lycanroc passed through also because of that, since it's Rockruff's location. The Spawner isn't some legality miracle worker, if you spawn legends at a place they can't be found at, say Route 2 for a Necrozma, it won't pass through a trade.
I got lycanroc from a patch of grass outside that professor without the shirts hut. also traded a popplio from the same patch of grass.
that lycanroc i traded was a sun version too and my brother traded me his moon version for it so now i have the moon version on my sun, which was pretty cool so tommorow we are trading my shiny white and orange litten for his shiny white and blue litten to see if that works too
I don't know how to rename a pokémon. I have activated the cheat "rename any pokémon" already, but nothing happens when I choose a pokemon of mine in the menu. I don't know how to use that chat... for some reason there aren't any instructions. Does anyone know how to use it? Thank you for your answers.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.+1 -

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.
The issue is DRM -

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
