Maybe you can just delete /Nintendo 3DS/*/*/title/00040000/????????/data/* (untested!!)

THIS will leave your game shrekt. I'm not even sure if you know the 3DS SD card file structure even.

DO NOT DO THIS. There is absolutely ZERO reason you would ever want to mess with the "Nintendo 3DS" folder on your SD card.

As explained in the OP, when starting Animal Crossing: New Leaf, hold down the ABXY buttons, and you will be prompted to erase all save data. From there you can start a new town and inject a previous save - look at the "HELP! I bricked my town!" part of the OP. There is absolutely no reason to meddle around with the files in the "Nintendo 3DS" folder on your SD card, doing so is a ticket on the bullet train to disaster.

Don't use a backup of your SD card. Animal Crossing have a feature so it can tell it's not the last savedata used and ask you to remove your save file.

Changing the town hall roof and train station rof also changes your town's ID, but only in one place, therefore, it doesn't identify you fully as part of the town. That's a problem Cey has noticed when they started doing research about it.

Probably the editor didn't change everything about the ID. This is why it's glitchng,

Seems to only be when placing PWPs in certain places, I can move villager houses no problem.

First of all, thanks for the amazing effort and results to help us with the topic related to this thread. I'm a total newbie and can't understand half of the things posted here. However, I'm reading all the posts. Now, I have an issue that I've looking around and didn't find and answer to: how to upgrade to the desired firmware.
I usually don't update my 3ds xl (to be honest, I forget to do so) and the firmware version I have is 7.1.0-16U. I guess is a little bit outdated. Now, to start trying some of the process mentioned in this thread, I need a firmware near 9x that won't exceed the before mentioned version 9.5.0-22. This is my question:

Is there any way to update my 3ds xl to such version?

I know there is no way to downgrade (I have that point clear), that is why I am not upgrading throw the system settings method.

Again, I really appreciate such a topic for I am learning a lot (even tho I don't understand half of it). I do still have the curiosity of learning what is sysnand and such terms.

Don't use a backup of your SD card. Animal Crossing have a feature so it can tell it's not the last savedata used and ask you to remove your save file.

In fact, there's a title on NAND that tells the revision of the savefile for Smash Bros. 3DS, Pokemon XYORAS, Tomodachi Life (and all other card2 games?) There is one way to delete that title, and you'd have to DECRYPT the NAND and then extract the fat16 partition, xor it, delete file, re-xor it, inject fat16 partition, encrypt NAND, and who knows what happens next. I have painful memories of restoring Pokemon save games and it didn't except any other savegame after that.

I have bricked 2 people's 3DS' before from trying to update them. There is 1 painfully ultra-long, hard, EXPENSIVE way but I bet only 2 people did it. You'd be better off buying a 9.2 3DS (you can downgrade it and go through nand dumps )

Actually, that was the point of this. I had a backup of my town, but I couldn't restore it as it kept on crashing.

I restored the backup, and then used the ABXY trick to reset my town, once there, I restored by town backup and voila! My town works again.

So, for what it's worth, do make a backup of your SDCard. I was at a point where I couldn't even use the ABXY trick to reset my town, as the game would crash before that prompt.
