It won't get anymore cache updates? Just making sure if that's what you meant. I know that the original won't get any app updates.
Yes, both use the same cache, so both get the same updates. You can use the original freeShop without any problem.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Implementing basic hiragana/katakana support shouldn't be too hard, but fixing kanji input might be quite a bit harder.

Any possibility of giving the ability to set the location of a cache of your own choice? That way one could possibly point it to a newer one should the current one go down, or you could even run one of your own locally.

Set the location of a cache ?
Yes, it's possible, I will add this to my TODO-List.

See this post by me. It still applies since arc13 didn't change the cache servers.

I dont know if that would be possible, but I'd go against it. Splitting up the cache is generally a bad idea. Generating it locally is even worse since it apparently takes quite a long time if Cruels comments on it were any indication.

@arc13 - I'd recommend you to get in touch with @ss23. He runs the current freeShop site (and by extension the cache). Also, would you mind creating a new thread? I think its time to put this version of freeShop behind us and look forward to a new and bright future.

I don't see why, having multiple sources is never a bad thing, though you'd only want to use one you trust to keep itself updated regularly. It's not like having JimBob spin up a second cache server is suddenly going to stop the main cache server from auto updating.

Fragmentation. At some point you'd have four caches running around, one of whom has stopped updating since december last year because the owner couldn't give a shit about the project anymore, and the users of that server aren't aware of it.

Also you people need to realize that it isn't a server. It's a github release page. Here it is: https://github.com/Repo3DS/shop-cache/releases . I can only assume that ss23 has somehow gotten access to theCruels account, because that is where the cache updates are posted (and downloaded by the program).

Yes, it's possible to change the location of the cache in freeShop, but yes, I understand your point of view.
And I will make a thread soon, I'm just busy now.

What you call fragmentation I call future-proofing. Just because there is a cache currently maintained doesn't mean that will always be the case.

does this new fork have a new title id or it will install over the existing freeshop?

As @Minox said, it's future proofing, not fragmentation.

Also, do you think that GitHub release page gets magically updated by pixies? While the result of the cache update is hosted on GitHub, the cache update itself is done on a server. There's no requirement of the cache data being stored on GitHub, it could be stored on a Digital Ocean VPS, a desktop in someones basement, or a secret honeypot at the CIA headquarters for all the app cares.

Hey guys.

First of all: I'm really glad that someone continues that project. Thumps up!

But I got a wierd problem with the new unofficial version 3.0.0
Freeshop itself runs flawlessly, but if I try to download something it freezes and I have to restart my DS.

It was working on 2.2.0 ?
It's strange, because it's working perfectly on my consoles.
Maybe your SD Card is defective, test it with h2wtest.
