Hope no one's expecting reicast for RetroArch on Horizon anytime soon:

https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/...from_remudev_we_dont_trust_twinaphex_anymore/

Sounds like there's two sides to the story, with skmp threatening to sue over some copyright/trademark/patent/legal BS, and the thread in r/emulation and r/emudev becoming hotspots for drama, with the thread in the former subreddit getting locked down at one point, and then unlocked again by Reverend_Sins.

None of this makes it difficult for Reicast to come to Horizon Retroarch, actually. libretro have simply reverted to using the bettle dc fork, and it'll arrive in Horizon Retroarch in that form (if it arrives at all).

More like "don't expect a standalone reicast update anytime soon" as the aarch64 dynarec is copyright'ed by flyinghead, as mainline reicast is in the proccess to change the licenses, standalone reicast cannot be build with dynarec anymore. There are only 2 ways where we can have a reicast update:
1.- skmp stoping with this license BS and apologise twinaphex and flyinghead.
2.- davidgf moving to flyinghead's reicast fork.

Gosh this is all above my head. So is this why we have no update to this emu? I check everyday cause i was excited. This is a major bummer. The version that was released is so promising. I would hate for this to be the only release.

Honestly, on a console like this, I wouldn't mind using the standalone build myself. Sure, it may not be as convenient as RA, but for now, with Lakka not being quite to where I like it (sleep mode is nice, for both it and Ubuntu, but does Lakka itself need to drain the battery faster? Or am I just imagining that? Still waiting on wireless controller and dock support atm before pulling the trigger), and Ubuntu, at least for now, being a PITA to work with when you have a job you have to go to in the morning, this was the option that looked the most attractive until I read about what went down yesterday/two days ago. Now, I fear that an option has been lost.

What exactly are the beetle cores, anyways? Are they for emulators that RA doesn't have the legal rights to? Or is the name change for legal reasons specific to this situation?

To be honest, you seem to have the legal situation slightly reversed. Beetle emulators are often forks where the core project has relicenced for arbitrary reasons. That is the case here - Reicast is planning to relicence from GPL to BSD, angering certain developers who don't agree with that change being arbitrarily made to their code. Beetle DC is a fork which will remain GPL therefore the GPL'ed code will continue to be able to be used. Standalone Reicast will be in limbo if they switch to BSD because a lot of critical code will have to be removed and they won't be able to use anything from the GPL'ed Beetle DC.

Maybe both projects will stay GPL and this whole thing will blow over. Who knows.

I see. I had heard pretty negative things about beetle cores in the past, and was curious about the deets and whether they're worth the trouble of configuring.

I have the required files.
Placed the nro in switch folder.
I made a reicast folder and made a data folder.
I placed the boot and flash files in there.
I made a Games folder and placed the game in there.
When i load app i can see settings icon top right corner but cant access it.
Im using sxos.

Fiddle with it. You should be able to access it just fine, though I personally don't have experience with SX OS to tell you if I've experienced similarities to what you got.

Got it working some what.
Game loads then crashes.
Could it be the bios is an older version?

Does it boot to the BIOS startup screen? If so, I'd try another game.

You don't need to update us with everything you're trying, btw. Do everything you can until you have no idea how to proceed.

One thing I'll say is that .gdis are more reliable than .cdis, not that you couldn't get away with the latter, but don't be surprised if the latter doesn't work.
