Seeing that soldering it not a problem now, what would be the recommended/best mod-chip to get now? For a D2C?

I would personnaly go for D2Pro as well. Wasabi seem a bit buggy at this time.

D2Pro juste came out with a 9wire install firmware for their D2Pro9 version of the modchip. So it will be just as easy as the wasabi to install. Let's hope it's more stable than wasabi and argon 9 wire install.

If you want to use the wii-clip, then D2Pro for sure in my opinion.

has it been proved wasabi is at fault and not the solder job?

Assuming it's the issue I'm thinking off , then no it's not the solder jobs as it always seems to be fixed by sticking a capcitor between k and ground.

As far as upgrading the chip via DVD or JTAG, is one more advantageous than the other? Are there any circumstances where Nintendo can prevent an upgrade being performed by either of them?

No, it isn't.

You will never get 'the best' in something like this ... there will always be too many different factors involved, and everyone will have their own defintion of the best.

I, for example, favor the open-sourced chips.

I tottaly agree ! For DMS/D2A/D2B, yaosm right now is unbeatable ! Bell realy does an amazing job !

I wish yaosm was adapted for D2C !

I would probably get a YAOSM if I knew how to build things on a PCB..

No one knows?

Nintendo cannot do _anything_ so far apart from the 001 check which detects if you are using a dvd recordable or not, and we can bypass or remove that check.
NO other nintendo checks are currently active/present

It's detecting a faulty or incorrect DVD drive, not the recordable disc in the drive ... the DVD drive is external hardware, as far as the Wii is concerned.

JTAG upgrade will always be possible, as you have to upgrade the chip connecting it to a PC, thus not using the Wii at all. It's a bit unconvenient, though, as you have to open your Wii, remove the drive and place the drive near to the pc, to connect the modchip to the JTAG programmer.
