btw, she's 5, dont give her any games. In her age, the fantasy is all you need.

My philosophy is don't treat a 5 year old like an idiot by getting her idiot games.

IMO I'd start off with New SMB. It's a pretty quality game and easy for a platformer (you might need to help her with the castles and stuff at first). Let her form an opinion on videogames before tossing more at her.

I'm sure she also likes Super Princess Peach.

And I know when I was little, I grew up with Tetris.

But if possible, try and give her a few RPG's as text-hheavy they will be.
They will improve her reading and possibly her vocabulary.

Now I have more "recommended" games for any age, but I really think these are the funnest a 5 year old would be able to play.
And they're not just for fun either, some of them are subliminally teaching ones. The ones in bold are absolute musts for a 5 year old, but if possible, try and include all of them.

how is scribblenauts a good game for a 5 year old? the entire game is using objects by spelling out words to solve each level a 5 year old's vocabulary is most likely not even capable of coming up with any of the words

Scribblenauts can be a great childs game, what better way to teach a child vocabulary than with a game that holds 20,000+ words you experiment with? The auto-spell feature will bring up new words they don't know out of jibberish like "dglkse"

but a 5 year old wants to have fun when playing a game its not fun when they don't know what they're supposed to do you cant just use a random word and hope to beat a stage you need to come up with something that will help you accomplish the stage and a 5 year old(unless they're a genius) wont be able to accomplish that and most likely they wont know how to pronounce the word even if it was spelled for them
