Reasons NOT to upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3?

I'm currently running a 4.1U and am considering updating to 4.3 simply because I'm not the only person who uses my Wii and am worried someone else, or even me sometime down the line, will connect to the internet and accidentally do a system update and get rid of the homebrew channel.

Is there any advantage to keeping my system a 4.1? Would I be able to fix the update by reinstalling bootmii as boot2, then doing a syscheck and getting the necessary IOS files from ModMii?

    my dad works for nintendo.
you can block updates in priiloader hacks menu, they will not pop up...

there is no reason to upgrade 4.2.and 4.3 were made just to block the homebrew channel...

and congratulations for having modmii on boot2

I have "Block Online Updates" enabled in priiloader, yet any time I perform an internet connection test it says "The connection test was successful. Perform a Wii system update now?" And I get that 4.3 just removes homebrew, I'm just wondering if I would lose anything by upgrading to 4.3 then remodding so I won't have to worry about it down the line if I or someone else accidentally updates.

I think that it's worth because 4.3 is the most easiest version to hack. You don't need game discs because Wilbrand Launcher does an excellent job, but don't update using Download Update from System Menu (use ModMii), because it will lock the boot2 and likely you can't install BootMii again.

The internet connection test will always ask to search for an update, even if your Wii has blocked updates or unmodified.

Sometimes Letterbomb page is offline, and Wilbrand is a tool that doesn't need Internet Connection or servers to work.

Both of them work on the same way: input MAC Address, copy data to SD Card and load a message.

4.3 is useless as shit, it blocks off bootmii on boot2 (which means if you fuck your Wii up, your chances of bricking are the same as buying a new Wii) there's nothing you win from updating to 4.3 rather than some IOS updates and installs (IOS62 for example) which you can easily add by using ModMii or manually through the NUS Downloader.

Updating to 4.3 overwrites the boot2 partition making it impossible to install bootmii on boot2, you'll get nothing by updating to 4.3, just block online and disc updates with Priiloader and install the necessary IOS files using ModMii

I don't think bootmii at boot2 cannot be installed on 4.3, since the Boot1, which allows a fakesigned b2, is not updated.
It only overwrites it when updating, but you can install bootmii back afterwards.

The only problem is when the system critical partition corrupts or error 003 occurrs when boot2 is overwritten, then it's really screwed.

The only reason to update is if you want to be a dumbass.

Oh? This is news to me! I guess I've done well by sitting comfortably on my 4.2 since there was no reason for me to jump to 4.3.

The only danger I know that's connected to jumping from 4.1 to 4.3 is the possibility of bricking a Korean Wii falsely sold as a U.S. one (happens pretty often, apparently), so hey - you learn something new everyday! :yay:

Alright, thank you everyone. I knew updating to 4.3 would just be an inconvenience and not improve anything, but I didn't think it would disable my ability to install bootmii as boot2. I'll stay with 4.1

I'm just curious if anyone knows why it still prompts me for an update when I connect to the internet even though I have updates disabled in Priiloader.

    1. You can still install BootMii as boot2. The problem is that it will remove it during the update, so if anything goes wrong, no recovery. If it goes fine, you just re-install BootMii as boot2.
    2. Does "When I connect to the internet" mean "When I launch the Shop Channel"? If so, just manually update the Shop Channel by downloading the wad from ModMii.
    3. Just because something will have minimal downsides doesn't mean it's a good idea. Stick with 4.1.

I mean when I go to the Wii system settings, search for an access point and establish an internet connection, it asks me to test the connection. When the connection is successful, it prompts me to update.

That's normal actually, even if updated it will still ask you that, just do what Joostin said, download the most recent Wii shop wad (that is if you still wanna access the Wii Shop channel)

Also later if you want to do a Wii to Wii U transfer you will need to have the updated version of the Wii Shop Channel as well as IOS62.

The internet connection test will always ask to search for an update, even if your Wii has blocked updates or unmodified (with all the official updates).]

I think Priiloader don't work with this option because Wii Settings page is the most annoying thing to modify and semi-bricking when fiddling it is very easy.
