Ok, so yesterday i received my Sky card from Yeahgeek and everything seemed to be fine. I transfered a couple fo games on my micro SD card via the diskwriter and my N3DS worked with them no issues whatsoever. Since I already own a GW card I sold my Sky card to a guy for his little 9 year old boy - I demonstrated with my console that the flash card is definitely working in front of him. Fast forward a day and he calls me saying that he literally tried everything and that his console (N3DS XL) is not reading the Sky card which is really unusual since it worked flawlessly on mine. So he tried a different SD card and whatnot, tried a bunch of ROMs but with no success, so I met with him saw what the issue is and gave him his money back and he gave me my Sky card which worked again flawlessly. So Im not sure whats the deal here, i mean the card clearly works on my console but it doesnt work on his? Any ideas?

I assume both consoles are the same region along with the roms?

Most likely a parental controls issue or a contact issue. Little boys can rough with their stuff and if he has had his console for awhile the slot could be dirty or somewhat damaged.

The AceKard had notorious contact issues and they became worse on our DSs as time went on. I was not aware of this but my boys devised their own solution to a contact issue. They would lick the card, stick it back in and fire it up! Of course if the were sucking on a Jolly Rancher at the same thime this likely caused other long term issues.

did he use his own micro sd card when he showed you the sky card not working on his xl ?

...lick the card? I've heard of blowing it, not sure about licking!

And a common fix for contact problems was to thicken the card by taping some paper to the opposite side of the contacts so they got pushed down whilst in the console.

Well he used his SD card and both consoles are the same region. I even inserted my SD card from yesterday and the console wouldnt read the card - it didnt blink or nothing while on my console everything works as it should.

Yeah, I did that fix as well. There is probably a tutorial over in the DS section still.

I suppose the saliva with its salinity helped as a conductor. Probably led to their eventual failure as well.

What is the firmware and region? I have not seen any reports of 9.6 issues but could it be on a low FW? If so, I assume the 3DS would have a problem it.

I came accross the same issue. What works for me is to reinsert the Sky3ds card with blue button pushed. Then blue led blink fast, remove the cartridge and insert again blue led flash again but slowly, and you should have your game visible in Home Menu now.

9.0.E. Yeah my guess is that its a console related issue. The only downside in this is that he lives quite far away from me and he spent a lot of money on gas... Oh well.

Thanks for your answer, but I already returned the money, but Ill be sure to suggest this to the next person who buys it if he/she by any chance stumbles into this again

Why did you buy a sky to turn around and sell it immediately? Or did you make the purchase waiting for n3ds support and it just arrived?

Nah I made the purchase so I could update my emunand as soon as possible, but in the meantime I got a OOT card for free and managed to update my emunand and now Im stuck with a brand new Sky card. Even though I have no use for it Im kinda sad Im selling it since it works quite well.

guitar I suggest selling your working MicroSD with it next time. Just to be sure it won't happen again?

I'm almost 90% sure Sky works on new firmware. It works in my brothers who is able to play MK7 online ( THE OFFICIAL CARTRIDGE) and if I'm not mistaken you have to be at recent firmware to go online. Anyways...

I had the same issue where a nephew of mine wanted to use my SKYcard to play games. But it wouldn't read the card no matter what I even formatted the SD and tried just 1 game still did nothing.

It worked on

9.0 N3DS MMXL
9.4 3DS XL
9.x O3DS ( My little brothers possibly the newest??)

But not on my nephews

(Firmware unknown) O3DS it has parental controls I know that much. And it could also be on a low firmware due to his parental controls not allowing him to connect to the Web at all.

Really weird, I tried it on my friend's O3DS and it worked without any issues! I guess it's due to his console then...
Appears so. Do you plan on using any of the CFWs that are emerging? If so you may want to keep the sky as a multi tool so you don't have to keep switching the saves on CN. it can also be handy to pop in a friends console if he doesn't have a game you do so you both can play.

I may leave it for a while but I'm probably gonna sell it TBH since GW offers all that I require at the moment. As for the CFW's I think I'll pass on them since non of them support cartridge dumping nor playing backups. If by any miracle a dev decides to release a completely open source CFW then I guess I'll buy a Sky again but until then I'll stick with Gateway.
