I tried RawDump on my desktop's Plextor. Wii discs are, of course, not recognized.

On a whim, I tried to read in on my old HP laptop, and it didn't seem to continue spinning and not reading like the Plextor. So I loaded up RawDump 2.0 and it seemed to recognize the Wii disc.

The DVD-ROM in my HP is an HL-DT-STRW GCC 4241 N0C29.

As RawDump fires up, it shows "Wii disc" under the drive dropdown box. Dog Island would error out "illegal character in path". I wiped down the disc and boo-yah, the disc is id'd as The Dog Island.

"Finding seeds" shows in the RawDump window, and I get the dreaded "Arithmetic overflow" error that even people with the correct drives seem to get. I've tried DMA and PIO modes with the rip terminating with the overflow error.

-Could I have stumbled on a drive that may work?
-Or does RawDump allow any drive to recognize a Wii disc?
-If this drive could work, any hints to try to get a successful dump?

Thanks.

I've been dumping them over Wifi, but I figured, if I could, I'd put more wear and tear on a cheaper computer component. Plus, apparently, the Rawdump is a bit quicker.

Vielen Dank fur die Antwort.

It won't work. Why don't you just use your Wii to dump those discs?

My laptop DVD-ROM responds to the Wii disc. I think it may actually work. From what I've read, a lot of people, even those with the LG drives, get that arithmetic overflow error from RawDump.

QUOTE(Haruhi @ Nov 11 2008, 07:20 PM) Wii discs are a non-standard format, which the vast majority of drives cannot read normally. If at all.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Try differnt firmware versions. Even with the "offically" working LG drives, differnt firmware versions give differnt results. Maybe a differnt version will let you dump it.

My HP laptop's LG DVD drive can read Wii discs. The model number is GCC-4244N and it's a CD burner/DVD reader. When I try to use it with RawDump it just crashes, so I tried Friidump and, to my surprise, it works! It only works on mode 3, and Friidump 0.3 seems to work more stably than Friidump 0.4 (although you need Friidump 0.4 to do dual layers). Give it a try! It might just work.

When you've got it, run it with a command like this: (assuming your drive is drive D:)
friidump -d d: -3 -i outputfilename.iso

It takes a little over 2 hours to rip a single-layer disc for me. I hope it works for you

Off to try Friidump. Fingers crossed!

The HL-DT-STRW GCC 4241 N0C29 looks like a no-go. I'm told the drive is unsupported. Friidump says it's going into Hitachi mode. I get "retrieving disc seeds (whatever they are)", then fail out.

Do I need to mess around with PIO/DMA?

Are the disc seeds on the disc or somewhere on the net? If on the net, perhaps a hard line connection would be better than Wifi? Maybe my firewall is dorking up a connection?

Thanks for any assistance.
