ok maybe its really a stupid idea
but a was thinking

there are a lot of tools to creat your own ragnarok privat server
and as you know ragnarok online 1 is in 2D ....does not require a lot of horsepower

would it be possible (in theorie) to port the game to wii ...with some downgrade & some adjustments
specific to the wii

maybe it could be made for singel player ....every copy of the game would generate a own private server and a few other players could join
or something like that .... the DS has his own ragnarok too but its singelplayer with 4 player online multi

because you see ....quake 1 is possible....and that halo 1 mod too
and because of the low screen resolution of 480p ....it could be possible
but i dont have any knowlage of coding and such things

.... its just an idea ....dont hit me

your theory might be possible with 2 things
1. the user of the game *Must* Have internet
2. the private server source *Has* to be implanted in a channel before attempting
but since i don't know if it's possible to port the source and a game at the same time
but it is likely (not gauranteedly) possible
althus that is my opinion

we should give it a try
and see what the elite group of coders say to my
idea
a maybe ,,light"/,,not so massiv mmo" version of ragnarok online 1 would be great

a game to chillout
or could add quests like in wow and such things ...maybe instances

i always have dreamt of a wow in style of ragnarok

and i think the controlls would not be hard to port so wiimote+nunchuck
....and even if ...there is a keybord option

and we have SD cards and USB mass storage

lets see what will happen

Last time I checked, RO isn't open source, so no.

if your gonna choose an mmo to port to wii at least pick a decent one. RO isn't that good.
Well at least he didnt say runescape....

Well I'm am the exception to the rule because I like RS, but doing RS for the wii really would be neigh impossible. RO, in my opinion is decent, but that may be my weakness for nice looking 2D games that have good gameplay going for it. It would be nice to see it implemented on the wii (considering your Theory), but many people don't get motivated that easily so it may be awhile, and you may sell your wii before it happens

Just thought I'd point out a few things about your idea...

1. The server side is opensource but the client is NOT, so recreating the client for the Wii to be able to connect to the server (run through a PC server) would be a pain in the ass.
2. You can get around that problem however if you find out how the people who made the homebrew Ragnarok Online for DS did it.

3. You'd probably have to shrink all kinds of graphics since the I believe RO was made for a resolution of 800x600 or something around there.

4. If you do go with the recreating the client for Wii route, it would allow you to play any private RO server with standard options (and custom ones if you did a little mucking around with how it loads the data files and downloads/updates them)

Other than that, to be honest it wouldn't be that hard, but as these ideas come up it's always from people who don't know the first thing about server/client relationships or even about coding in the proper language, so with that said it's pretty obvious you won't get it done, and I doubt anyone else will be picking it up. I'd love to see it done though. The DS homebrew was okay except for the fact that it was sans graphics which got boring fast.

But it won't happen.
The reverse engineering required is insane - we'd be better off attempting to make our own MMO (as has already been said).
Hell, it'd be easier to completely recreate Super Smash Bros. Melee

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
