Hacking R4i3DS gold won't stay in the game slot?

Hi guys, I just bought a R4i3DS gold. I have a 3DS XL. Everytime I put the R4 into the game slot, it springs right back out. I can load the R4 fine if I hold it down but as soon as I let go it flies out. I have SSB4, a retail copy and there are no issues there

Any ideas?

Tried comparing the R4 with a regular cartridge and everything looks pretty much the same. Going to contact seller then.

^^ i honestly thought about it lol

There's no way that it would be my 3DS XL thats the problem right if SSB4 fits fine?
