Hacking R4i question

I've just bought my son a DSi XL for christmas and I would be grateful for a little advice please.

He currently owns a DS Lite which has an R4 flashcart running Wood with DScovered to help him navigate the menus (he's only 6). I'm aware that I will need to buy an R4i card to work with the DSi XL but would I be able to take the existing microsd card from the R4 card and use it in the R4i? If the version of Wood that is on the R4 flashcart is not compatible, would I just be able to update Wood and everything else (DScovered, games) will work on the DSi?

The DSi is running firmware version 1.4.4E.

of course,you can take the existing microsd card from the R4 card and use it in a new card. if you want buy a r4i card,then i recommend r4i gold 3ds with stick r4ids.cn ,use wood firmware,most popular r4i card and can directly work on dsi/xl v144.

its the flashcards that have the limitations not the kernel (aka wood in your case)

I live in the UK so which retailer would be best to buy from on the list at r4ids.cn please? Digimartz.com is listed for UK but it looks like a Canadian or HK based store. Would one of the other Europe links be better?

The UK banned flash cart sales, so your best bet is going to be to import from somewhere like Spain (that's where UK members tend to report success from). Dunno' any offhand.

That site looks good and they're doing an R4i Gold promo which is great...the downside is they have some ongoing shipping problems. It'll take 2-3 weeks to ship so that's not looking good for Christmas.

Oh well, i'll just got for it and buy a game to keep him busy over Christmas.

Hi, Chipspain got an R4i3DS Gold to me in 24 hrs (for 8euros post).

But - I'm having a hell of a time getting it to flash and work Might be worth it going for a SupercardTWO......

R4i card turned up today! I was amazed tbh but very happy none-the-less.

It didn't work straight out of the box, I just got www.r4ids.cn starting message but after reinstalling wood, all is well!

Very impressed with the swift delivery.

You should goto www.r4ids.cn and download wood r4 v1.55.
You'd better format your tf card with sector size bigger than 8KB size to make good use of RTS(real-time save).
You should unzip wood r4 v1.55 to the root directory of your tf card and you should get a directory named with __rpg and a file named with _ds_menu.dat
