Hacking R4i 3DS

I just bought an R4i 3DS cart (this one), which from what I've read on here is a DSTT clone. So does this use R4 firmware, or is it DSTT? Can I use R4 Wood or YSMenu with it? Or do I stick with the proprietary firmware (the latest website has is 1.44b)? I'm curious as to what this cart can use since I'm gonna lend it to my niece until my EZ-Flash Vi is fixed.

Only R4DS, R4i Gold (R4ids.cn) and R4iDSN are supported with Wood.

They cost 2-7 Euros.

Ask your seller for a refound.

What's wrong with 1.44b it is from 2011-09-01
so i think it supports the newest games

otherwise i think YSMenu wil run on it

I don't really see the huge deal with Wood OR YSMenu, really. The features are nice, but as long as it runs every game I throw at it, should be fine.

The assumption that clone firmwares run every game is what's incorrect. Some do, but most of them don't, and the ones that do tend to lack regular updates (or quickly stop getting updates).

Wood/YS firmwares, however, do play all new games and get updated as needed, which is why you should aim for a cart that uses them if you insist on getting something with "R4" in the title.

If it is, are they able to do this because they're all preflashed, or is it because of a special way that they update that doesn't require a DS phat/DS lite?

When you get a real R4i Gold from r4ids.cn (unlike the OT who just bought a cheap DSTT with R4 Gold sticker) that's no problem at all.

Whether that was intended as an insult or not, doesn't matter because the card is for my niece. I don't own a 3DS anyway.

DSTT is card model that's been cloned and modified countless times, many carts with "R4" in the title are actually modified DSTT clones.
