Hacking R4i 3Ds Gold work with 3DS games in the future?

I know this is ment to work in terms of 3DS games, and I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but will it be possible to use our same carts for 3DS game backups in the future? Is that the intention? Or is another flashcart purchase necessary down the line?
