Hacking R4i 1.4 - No Upgrade feature!

I borrowed my friend's ds lite this summer (because he has a 2DS why have a ds lite) and downloaded the latest kernel for my R4i card. I went to the upgrade option and there was no "start" button! Please help me! I've been struggling for 1 month!

Any help would be appriciated.

Which R4i cart is it exactly? There are hundreds, and only the specific kernel for your cart will work.

Umm I can't take a picture of it cuz my phone's camera a potato...
But I will describe it! It's the same as the R4i 1.4 but it has a WiFi logo and, weirdly, it says "2010.07" on the bottom of the card sticker (I mean the card--- You know what I mean!)
It has the classic "Truth inquiry" on the back, the sticker doesn't look out of place, it has an arrow facing down on the bottom of the card... Must be a clone.

not that i know what is your problem, but maybe you could try going to google images and searching for a pic that looks like your card. that may help somehow

I suspect by the fact you say it has a date on it could mean its one of these bad clones which have a time bomb and stop working after a certain date.

Have a look at installing YSmenu here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/retrogamefan-updates-releases.267243/ it should remove any time bomb from your card, allowing it to be usable and work with most games.

To make the problem more clear, In 2011, I bought a DSi XL with an R4i 1.4 on it... super weird but yeah! I booted the R4i up and it was compatible because the dsi xl was 1.4... But I was 8 at the time and didn't know what the heck was it... Sadly, I updated my DSi XL to 1.4.5... I just want to bypass the DSi flashcard block! And no, homebrew doesn't work because it works only with the US dsi's... The EU release for homebrew will be released after 100 years...

Also, I installed the YSmenu... and no start button on upgrade! Neither worked on my 1.4.5 dsi! Gah, if only there weren't stupid clones... if only nintendo didn't block flashcards......

I'm not completely sure, but i think if you have an exploitable title (sudoku, 4swords, flipnote, etc) no matter the region you can hack it, or at least with flipnote

I've heard that the flash.r4i must be somewhat 16MB, not 2MB... like, yeah! Maybe my card only upgrades to a SPECIFIC firmware? Please help!

Once you have it set up, try to update the firmware. Once you do that I recommend you move to YSmenu.

This may mean you cannot upgrade this flashcart model, it is pretty old afterall. The flashcart will work on the DS Lite forever since the DS Lite doesn't have a firmware of its own, which means no flashcart blocks.
