Wake up me up when they fix PoR.

There's nothing to "fix" in terms of software. It's hardware limitation, slow memory access.
EZ-Flash IV did fix it right? Using their hybrid mode for slower MicroSD cards..

They can easily use software to compensate for whatever is causing it to freeze.
Magically? You can't change the speed of memory with software, especially speed of removable media. The only things that is "possible" to "fix" the game is to reverse-engineer and rewrite it. The game engine itself is programmed this way.

And the problem is pretty much solved with Japanese Kingston/Toshiba MicroSD cards. Don't be a cheap ass and buy a decent MicroSD card.

Maybe some people want a 2+GB card instead of a 1GB Kingston.

Either way, Portrait of Ruin is one of those games that you NEED to play.

So I would suggest a purchase at a Best Buy with a Price Match from Circuit City (down to 25 bucks) and one of those 5 dollar off any DS game Gamepro coupons for Best Buy (you can find them all over the internet) to get the price down to a nice 20.

20 Bucks for a great game is not too much to ask... No?

Either way, as long as this only boots to the slot-2 card, then my problems are not solved (I want to navigate from the R4, right now, for slot-2 flashcarts, this is just the same as a passme, but with a fancy frame), something more like the expansion fix would be nice.

There's no hybrid mode on EZ IV.

D'oh! I meant V, but your italics suggest you knew what I meant.

What's with the flaming? You're not being very friendly around. Afaik EZ-Flash V's hybrid mode fixes all PoR freezing issues with slower media, which adds to decept's thoughts which I share.

Flaming? People are asking for impossible! If you buy a cheap card then it WILL have slowdowns, no software will help you.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with EZV, is there a compatibility list somewhere?

I wish they'd figure a way to get download play working better instead of focusing on skinning and customizing, but I guess its better than nothing.

Reverse engineering the actual game is stupid, much like your logic and unprovoked banter against my post. The firmware could very easily compensate for slow memory cards, as long as the specific error causing the lock up is found.

If you would shut up and think before spitting out another "I know everything" post, you would realize that it is in fact possible.

By the way, calling me a cheap ass is another sign of your ignorance and not to mention hypocrisy. "Spend more money so you can play free games you cheap ass!"

No need to insult, you've done it to yourself.

Any argument to prove me wrong, huh? Reverse engineering the actual game is impossible just as it's impossible to "fix" the lock up. That's why I mentioned it. Buy a good card or live with it.

And please care to shut up your dirty mouth, ok?

Sigh... if you must squabble do it via PM. Whether the memory access speed issue can be fixed or not it won't be fixed by the r4/m3 team because it works on at least one card... Meaning it doesn't negatively affect their compatibility ratings.

Either get the Kingston 1GB (Yes, only 1 GB, sucks, I know) or get the game for 20 bucks using the method I described earlier.

Or you could get a slot-2 with a fast card, but that is another story.

Either way, POR is off topic, we are talking about the new beta kernel for the R4, which has absolutely nothing to do with Portrait of Ruin... So can you guys please drop it.

Sheesh dude! Be nice! People ask questions because they do not know the answer. If nub questions bother you then just skip over them, no need to read them and then respond so negatively and put people down ...

I second that. But if you think this is bad, try going through the DS Forums in gamefaqs.com
Anyway, new kernal works great, and the ability to change the frames to substitute the black border is a great addition.
