Last night, with seemingly no instigation, my R button stops working. The only way I can get it to register is if I press it rather hard.

What could have caused this and, more importantly, can I do anything about it?

Maybe your right index finger just became weaker?

Anyway, give it a good blow and try not to get spit in it. This has been known to temporarily resolve the issue.

o.o i've witness with my own eyes it does work but it sometimes does reset back to not working not during a game but like after u put it down for a few hours or so

my friend was using the blowing technique for his DSLite

take the back off n make sure the spring hasnt come out of place, n clean the microswitch with a dry cotton bud while ur there.......

The DS lite faces one problem with the R and L buttons, well, to fix you had to open it and pull out the springs and the pick it up the little silver button and then clean it with some electronic solvent. it works.

Same problem with both my Ds, the blowing trick works, but only for abit. Is there no permanent fix?

Clean the inner switch and the area around the inner switch.

If that doesn't work, replace the buttons.

i had the same problem, and i got so fed up with it.
so i took out the screws from the back of my DSi and opened the right side just a bit to reveal the R button more. i blew as hard as i could and voila, not a problem to this day. just make sure you dont break anything important, and put your screws in a safe place while they are still out

Wow. I'd never think it was a widespread problem. My little brother has the same problem, but I thought it was because he's so uncareful with it

But why the R key? Why not the L? Isn't it symmetrical?

No, the L button can break just as easy. For me the L buttons broke because I use it more, and my R is still flawless since I pretty much never use it.

My DS Phat has a semi-unresponsive L button. Some times I have to press it repeatably to get a response. But that is not that bad compared to its 10 minute battery life and glued open top screen.
